Batman, alias Sir William, was a knight of the Round Table who was cursed by Merlin after he inadvertently married and assisted Lady Tasmia, a bat-like demon in disguise. Trapped in his castle, he could project his spirit into an empty suit of armor, and use it to battle evil- and eventually, atone for his sins.
