Mad Scientist
His real name unknown, this scientific genius was one of the first villains faced by Superman. Dubbed the Mad Scientist by the Daily Planet, he created the Electrothanasia-Ray and planned to test its destructive power on Metropolis, kidnapping Lois Lane when she came to his remote observatory hideout - where he lived alone with only his pet vulture to keep him company - hoping to interview him. He managed to destroy a suspension bridge and most of the Daily Planet building before Superman finally stopped him, destroying the Electrothanasia-Ray and throwing him into prison.

Superman #19 poses the possibility that the Fleischer cartoons actually exist within the Pre-Crisis universe as fictionalized accounts of Superman's adventures, and introduces a sequel where the Mad Scientist escapes from prison and seeks revenge against the Man of Steel.
