History
S-Bots were a type of robotic constructed created by Doctor Alistaire Smythe during his time as head of Oscorp Industries robotics division. These machines all served under their creators instructions and he believed that the future of the company lay within robotics as well as nanotechnology rather than genetic engineering. A number of these robots were stationed at Oscorp headquarters where they provided security services for the company. Smythe's prominence in the company rose after the public downfall of Doctor Curt Conners who had mutated into a dangerous Cross-Species known as the Lizard. The remaining Cross-Species experiments were meant to had been terminated but a breakout led to the creatures escaping where they spread the Cross-Species Virus that began infecting the populace of the city. In order to contain the threat, Dr Smythe began deploying his S-Bots to find and hunt down the Cross-Species whilst he himself attempted to create a Nanobot Serum cocktail to cure himself along with his colleagues. These were all created by a team created by Smythe that consisted of intelligent inventors as well as designers who utilized the machines to stop the Cross-Species from terrorizing Manhattan at the time. Whilst attempting to terminate the Cross-Species, the S-Bots determined that Spider-Man was one such target and began attacking him leading to him destroying a number of such machines.
The aggressive nature of the robots and the large scale damage they made to the city of New York led to Spider-Man forced to battle them. This essentially led to a three-way conflict between Spider-Man, the Cross-Species and the S-Bots. When Conners created an experimental serum to cure the virus, Smythe took the cure for himself only for him to be crippled by its use and he was unable to use his legs. In his anger, he became obsessed with getting revenge against Spider-Man who he blamed for his condition. This led to him sending the S-Bots to actively target Spider-Man as a threat and was when he began referring to the machines as Spider Slayers. Ultimately, Smythe was turned into a full Cross-Species himself and he committed suicide at the hands of his own prototype S-Bot. Afterwards, Oscorp discontinued the production of the robots following the Cross-Species Virus was cured.
Overview
These machines came in a variety of forms from floating seekers to human sized insectile machines and finally much larger building sized constructs. All were programmed to detect Cross-Species DNA and some were armed with weaponry needed to terminate such targets.
Types
- Seekers : small robot drones that fly around and sought out their targets such as Cross-Species whereupon they notified hunters of the target.
- S-01 : a large house sized insectile machine that burrowed from the ground where it walked on six motorized legs and a thorax that opened up to shoot waves of missiles. It contained a number of sensor eyes on its head to track targets and fired a powerful energy weapon from its mouth.
- S-02 : a massive skyscraper sized serpentine construct that drilled through buildings or the ground with a mouth that held pincers along with four tendrils to grab targets into its maw. In addition, it was armed with a powerful energy weapon that fired from its mouth and was able to suck objects into its maw to shred them to pieces.
