Cross-Species Virus

The Cross-Species Virus is a disease that features in The Amazing Spider-Man video game.

History

The Cross-Species Virus was a virulent plague that was created as a result of Doctor Curt Conner's experiments in hybridization which he did when he was a scientist employed at Oscorp Industries. During that time, he had developed a formula that was able to impart animal characteristics onto a human. After fears of his projects termination, he decided to test a version of the formula on himself which turned him into a reptilian Cross-Species called the Lizard. With his mind changed, he attempted to convert the entire populace of New York into similar such creatures until he was defeated by Spider-Man. In the aftermath, the Cross-Species experiments that remained were meant to had been terminated by Doctor Alistaire Smythe. However, during the transportation of the specimens, the creatures escaped after being driven into a frenzy when encountering Peter Parker at the Oscorp Headquarters. The escape of the specimens led to the spread of a virulent version of the Cross-Species formula which had become a deadly virus. Many employees of the Oscorp Headquarters were infected which included Gwen Stacey which led to Spider-Man freeing Conners from Beliot Psychiatric Facility in order to enlist his expertise in finding a cure. At the same time, Alistaire Smythe deployed his S-Bots to terminate the escaped Cross-Species whilst he attempted to create a Nanobot cocktail designed to destroy Cross-Species DNA.

In order to perfect a cure, Conners required a sample of Cross-Species DNA which led to Spider-Man saving the specimen known as the Vermin from extermination at the hands of S-Bots. The experimental serum was later taken to Oscorp by Spider-Man where Dr Smythe forcibly took it to cure himself of the infection. However, the cure was imperfect and instead led to complete paralysis of his legs. Conners later determined that a true cure was present within Parker's DNA as his had not been overwhelmed by the Cross-Species genetic material. By this point, the CDC had referred to the disease as the Cross-Species Virus that had already infected hundreds in New York.

Overview

They began to experience fevers and nausea as a result of the virus. A cure for the disease was actually present within Peter Parker who was a Cross-Species but had retained his human features and was not overwhelmed by the animal DNA.
