Biography
Christie Monteiro (Japanese: クリスティ・モンテイロ, Hepburn: Kurisuti Monteiro)
Her grandfather was doing a long stint in prison. During a prison riot, he defended himself impressively by using the art of capoeira. He attracted the interest of a young Eddy Gordo, in prison under false charges. Eddy studied under Christie's grandfather for eight years in prison, becoming a master of capoeira.
Eddy sought Christie out after he returned from the third King of Iron Fist Tournament. Upon meeting Eddie, she told him how she had given up on her dream of a university education with no family to support her. Eddie took Christie under his wing, sent her to college and taught her Capoeira over the next two years. Christie quickly picked up the art and became adept at it. Eddy disappeared shortly afterwards however, intent on pursuing revenge against his parents' murderers. He had seemingly identified Kazuya Mishima as being the culprit for their deaths. Looking for clues as to where Eddie had gone, Christie found a newspaper clipping about the King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 and set off to follow him. Christie entered the fourth Iron Fist Tournament hoping to find him.
Christie's grandfather was eventually released from prison, but his time there had left him emaciated and weak. Christie rushed him to hospital, where she was told he had a terminal illness and would die within six months. The advanced technology of the Mishima Zaibatsu however gave her and Eddy a window of hope. They both entered the fifth Iron Fist Tournament to try and gain access to the scientific advances that might save him.
When Christie and Eddy failed to win the tournament, Eddy, unbeknownst to Christie, brokered a deal with tournament winner Jin Kazama. Eddy agreed to work for Jin's Tekken Force in exchange for medical care being given to Christie's grandfather. All Christie initially knew of this was that Eddy had disappeared. She returned alone to Brazil, only to find that her grandfather had also disappeared, and had apparently been sent to the Mishima Zaibatsu for treatment. Christie returned to Japan when the sixth tournament was announced, seeking both Eddy and her grandfather.
Unfortunately, even utilizing the Zaibatsu's resources, Christie's grandfather was unable to be saved, and ultimately passed away from his illness. After her grandfather's funeral, Christie was initially irate at Eddy for his disappearance, but embraced him soon after, as both grieved her grandfather's death. Enraged at his failure, Eddy threw away his ties to Jin and the Mishima Zaibatsu to instead seek vengeance against Kazuya Mishima for the deaths of his own parents.

Personality and attributes
In appearance, Christie Monteiro was a beautiful young woman with long brown hair, light brown eyes, and tan skin. She always wears Capoeira pants and fights barefoot whilst wearing a bikini top. Her secondary costume is a more casual attire that features a patterned shirt tied at the front, paired with shorts and sandals.
She was rather light-hearted and joyful. She does not fight out of envy, but rather always with a very specific goal.

She is one of the few characters in the series to fight on behalf of others, rather than for vengeance, entering the tournaments to find her master Eddy, as well as to help her Grandfather.
Christie Monteiro was noted for being the granddaughter of the Legendary Capoeira Master (伝説のカポエイラマスター Densetsu no Kapoeira Masutā?). Prison life had been hard on her grandfather. He had become emaciated to the point that he was barely recognizable. Her grandfather had become very weak to the point that he was not the grandfather she knew. Christie's grandfather was diagnosed with an incurable illness. Without treatment, the doctors gave him only six months to live. Christie hoped a cure was possible using the advanced technology of the Mishima Zaibatsu.
She cared deeply for her friend Eddy Gordo who learned capoeira from her grandfather, and in turn taught her.
Powers and abilities
Christie Monteiro was an ordinary human being with no special inherent abilities. During the time her grandfather was in prison, she came to be taken under the wing of her friend Eddy Gordo who had trained under the Legendary Capoeira Master. After only two years of training, Eddie turned Christie into an impressive fighter. Christie trained in the art Capoeria where she became an impressive martial arts fighter. Christie shared her grandfather's talent and became a formidable fighter, on par with Eddie himself. Christie's moves are the same as Eddy's with the exception of her basic throws, side throws, and back throws.

- Christie Monteiro was created by Namco where she featured in the setting of the Tekken universe.
- She was voiced by Marina Inoue in the Japanese version, and by Xanthe Smith, Rumiko Varnes and Lisle Wilkerson in the English version.
- Masahiro Kimoto was one of the game designers of Tekken 3 that the Capoeira character be female but the artist that was tasked with the character's design deemed the female character too difficult to create and instead created Eddy.
- A model portrayed Christie in the "Tekken Maxim Photoshoot" gallery in Maxim.
- Aubrey Sitterson of UGO Networks placed Christie fourteenth on his 2011 list of "Fighting Games' Finest Female Fighters": "In addition to being totally foxy, something about the idea of a lady Brazilian Capoeira expert just totally clicks for us."
