History
Earth-295 was an alternate reality that existed within the Multiverse. It was created as a divergent reality spawned from an accidental case of time travel on Earth-616 by Legion the son of X-Men leader Professor Charles Xavier and Israeli diplomat Gabrielle Haller. In a misguided attempt to fulfill his father's dreams of human-mutant co-existence, Legion travelled back in time to before his father's falling out with Magneto. Legion believed that Magneto was the reason that Xavier had been unable to bring about peace between humans and mutants, and thus believed that killing him would allow Xavier to fulfill his dreams. Legion was opposed by the X-Men Storm, Iceman, Bishop, and Psylocke, who were dragged backwards in time with him. (X-Men v2 #40)
Unbeknownst to the combatants, the ancient mutant Apocalypse had witnessed the battle from afar. The level of superhuman abilities wielded by Legion, Magneto, Xavier and the time-displaced X-Men led him to believe that the evolution of mutantkind had proceeded sufficiently, and that the world was ripe for his return. (X-Men v2 #40)
Inspired by Xavier, Magneto sought to educate those who feared mutants, and to show them that humans and mutants could live together in harmony. Magneto's efforts were futile however, and as intolerance and hatred towards mutants steadily grew, Magneto chose to isolate himself from the world. He gathered a small group of young mutants from around the world and brought them to a hideout in Wundagore Mountain. These would be the first of his X-Men, mutants who were taught by Magneto to use their powers for the benefit of the entire world. In time, Magneto's school would house many mutants, from children to adults, receiving sanctuary and training in the use of their powers. (X-Men Chronicles v1 #1)
Apocalypse was a fervent believer in natural selection, the 'survival of the fittest'. He believed that the strong deserved to rule the world, and that the weak were fit only for extermination. Apocalypse began slowly gathering mutants to his cause. He first announced himself to the world at large when his Ship appeared in the skies of New York City. His herald Candra proclaimed that the Earth would soon pass into the hands of those deemed worthy; mutantkind. Apocalypse's first strike, an attempt to seize and launch the nuclear arsenal housed at Cape Citadel was foiled by Magneto and the X-Men. (X-Men Chronicles v1 #1)

- Bolivar Trask : fled to London during the early days of Apocalypse's genetic culling of the United States. He joined the Human High Council, helped the council develop their Sentinel robots to defend Eurasia from mutants, and married Moira Kinross. Trask gathered with the other Council members when Weapon X (Logan) and Jean Grey returned from a mission to collect data from Sinister detailing Apocalypse's defense grid that could potentially wipe out all of Europe at any moment. - Prophet : William Stryker's father was a preacher and William believed he would follow in his footsteps. The arrival of Apocalypse halted all of that when their hometown was destroyed and William's family were forced to become refugees. Ironically, William's parents and two sisters were killed by human scavengers. (Uncanny X-Force v1 #19.1)

- Earth-295 was created by Fabian Nicieza, Andy Kubert, and Ron Garney where it made its first appearance in X-Men v2 #40 (November, 1994).

Films
- In Deadpool & Wolverine, the Age of Apocalypse briefly appeared in the setting of the live-action film. Deadpool came to travel to various realities in an effort to recruit a Wolverine with among those he visited was the Age of Apocalypse variant. Weapon X came to attack and brutally attack Deadpool who eventually departed and continued his search once his injuries had healed.
Video games
- In X-Men: Reign of Apocalypse, a reality loosely based on the Age of Apocalypse appeared in the setting of the 2001 Game Boy Advance video game. The X-men came to accidentally travel to an alternate universe where Apocalypse had taken over the world with most of the X-men being his minions. This Apocalypse then planned to travel to the regular timeline and take it over as well. In the end, the X-Men defeated Apocalypse and returns to their timeline.
