History

Mirage

The Purple Dragon Gang were the toughest gang from the Lower East Side in New York City. Decades ago, the gang's leader Hunter Mason delivered a brutal beating to a teen-aged Casey Jones, one of the Purple Dragons' bitterest enemies, prior to being thrown in jail. After being released from jail. Hun wiped out the Black Dragons, declaring his intentions to rebuild his criminal empire.

They often are led by Hun and have a connection to the Foot Clan. The leader of the Black Dragons, apparently cut a deal with Officer Miller, which resulted in Hun being locked up and allowed him to gain control of the Purple Dragons. He then helped the Purple Dragons' one-time-rival, the Shredder, wipe out the group, turning them into the Black Dragons: a gang subservient to the Foot Clan. In their first fight against the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, the Purple Dragons found that their guns and knives are useless against their martial arts. The turtles managed to kill most of the members before the police arrive.

IDW

the Purple Dragons are a street gang who frequents the neighborhoods near the Second Time Around shop. Previously they were under the leadership of Arnold "Hun" Jones and Brooklyn S. Bridge, until both men married and moved on with their lives. Many years later, Bridge's daughter Angel took over leadership of the Dragons, turning them less into a violent gang and more a vigilante group or a community watch.

The Turtles first encountered the Dragons when they were mistaken for Foot Clan mutants in its capacity as the Neighborhood Watch, the Purple Dragons often clashed with the Foot Clan, who terrorized the neighborhood, and also had unpleasant experiences with the mutants Old Hob and Alopex. When the misunderstanding was straightened out, they became tentative allies of the Turtles, though this was mostly because of Angel's leadership. Particularly well-known members include (behind Angel) Link, Malo and Chun.

That leadership was challenged during the City Fall arc, when a mutagen-augmented Arnold Jones reclaimed both his name as "Hun" and the leadership of the Dragons, ousting Angel. The Dragons reverted to their old criminal ways under the leadership of the Foot Clan.

However, Hun soon lost control of the Dragons when he attempted to lead them against the O'Neils, only to be thwarted by the neighborhood residents. He was arrested by Kara Lewis, and soon became a fugitive. The Dragons fell into disarray without Hun or the Foot Clan in charge of them, a situation that only ended when Hun's son Casey Jones took over leadership. This restored the Dragons more to a vigilante group, assisting the Foot Clan in its missions and fighting off the Triceraton invasion.

Unfortunately, after the rise of Mutant Town, sentiment of the Dragons as a whole turned toward anti-mutant bigotry. Casey exited the group in disgust, leaving Chun, Link, and Malo as co-leaders. Acting as their own perverted form of policing against mutants outside of the walls, they attacked the Punk Frogs when they were looking for food along with Casey, who was already confronting the Frogs for leaving Mutant Town, but attempting a less hate-filled approach. The Frogs and Casey teamed up against the Dragons and sent them home packing.
