- Saarek was created by Dennis O'Neil and Mike Grell where he made his first appearance in Green Lantern v2 #90 (September, 1976).
- The character was a reference to Sarek from the Star Trek universe with Saarek even giving the Vulcan hand sign for 'Live Long and Prosper' to Hal Jordan.
