Shire

The Shire was a hilly region of Middle-Earth populated by numerous hobbits, including the Baggins family. The Shire was generally sedate and peaceful, but during the War of the Ring it was invaded by orcs loyal to Saruman and made into his new base of operations. The Shire was freed thanks to the efforts of Frodo Baggins and his fellow hobbits of the Fellowship of the Ring.

Films

The conquest of the Shire by Saruman was not shown in the live-action films. However, a vision of orcs attacking and enslaving the Shire was shown in the film The Fellowship of the Ring.
