Liber8

Liber8 is an organization that features in Continuum.

History

Liber8 was a terrorist organization whose origins were traced to the early part of the 21st century. In the modern day, there was a young man named Julian Randol who developed a radical philosophy that espoused opposition to the growing power of the corporations. This group's anti-corporate activities led to them being designated as terrorists, anarchists, revolutionaries, freedom fighters and even as a gang by 2012. In time, Randol grew up and became the mentor to Edouard Kagame who he taught everything he knew prior to the formation of Liber8. Julian henceforth became known as "Thesus" who was a teacher that inspired the rise of their organization. Under his leadership, they were responsible for terrorist attacks against the growing corporate power since the 2030's. In 2057, the mega-corporations bailed out the failing national governments and thus officially took over the world as the formed the Global Corporate Congress. A series of open rebellions were formed against the corporations in the early 2060's with mass street protests and urban warfare. By 2065, the tide was turned and the insurrections were crushed by the corporate forces. Despite this being the case, Liber8 was not destroyed but instead switched its tactics to guerrilla warfare and large scale terrorist strikes rather than conventional combat of trying to take and hold cities. Liber8 then developed to respond to the totalitarian rule of the Corporate Congress where they espoused freedom and a return to democratic principles that had been nearly erased by 2077.

In 2076, Liber8 came to be responsible for bombing the Corporate Congress building leading to the deaths of thousands all with the goal of killing 20 members of the corporate heads. Afterwards, Edouard Kagame came to be apprehended by CPS for the bombing where he joined seven other detained Liber8 members. The group were found guilty of the attack where they were scheduled for execution in 2077. Unknown to anyone, Alec Sadler came to conspire to Kagame where he arranged for a time travel device to be used to send Liber8 back in time to the early 21st century. As they were being transported, they were followed by CPS officer Kiera Cameron who along with Liber8 became stranded in the past of 2012.

Overview

In time, the organization began to adopt more violent means of achieving its goals and a general lack of respect of human life. They were not above killing civilians or engaging in terrorist activities in order to achieve their goals.

Members

• Julian Randol : a male human who in 2013 was a teenager that engaged in activist activities that led to the rise of Liber8 with himself being called Theseus.
• Edouard Kagame : a male human born in 2012 where he came to see he rise of corporations taking over the world and he came to be influenced by the writings of Theseus where he rose to be a senior figure of Liber8. He was among those captured and sentenced to execution but ended up time travelling to 2012.
• Sonya Valentine : a female medical specialist who by 2077 had been with Union Military where she worked on creating supersoldiers at which point she met Travis Verta with the two becoming lovers whereupon she joined Liber8. She was among those captured and sentenced to execution but ended up time travelling to 2012.
• Travis Verta : a male who by 2077 had been enhanced to be a soldier and tactician where he was well-trained in hand-to-hand combat who was formerly with special forces until he joined Liber8. He was among those captured and sentenced to execution but ended up time travelling to 2012.
• Lucas Ingram : a male who was a former SadTech employee by the year 2077 and provided technical aid to Liber8 after joining their cause. He was among those captured and sentenced to execution but ended up time travelling to 2012.
• Jasmine Garza : a blonde haired female soldier in the year 2077 until she joined Liber8. She was among those captured and sentenced to execution but ended up time travelling to 2012.
• Matthew Kellog : a male who in 2077 was set to be executed but was among the Liber8 members that travelled back in time to 2012 where he left the group and attempted to become a rising corporate figure in the past.
