Mark Hales
Mark Hales was a student at Hamelin University. An animal rights activist, he along with his group opposed the work of Prof. Edmond Delhurst who used animals in his cancer research. When protests failed to convince Delhurst to stop, Mark, along with fellow activists Alex, Al and Angie, broke into Delhurst's lab and wrecked it. This got them into trouble with Dean White, who threatened expulsion if they did it again.
Nevertheless, upon learning that Dr. Neil Hamilton had begin working with rats, Mark, with Al and Angie in tow, broke into Hamilton's lab. There they discovered a gigantic rat, having been embiggened by Dr. Travis' growth formula. The rat escaped from its cage and attacked the activists. Al and Angie escaped, but Mark did not. He was overcome by the giant rodent and bitten to death, and the rats all escape out the window which was broken in the struggle.
