Biography
Silvio Manfredi
Over time, he came to savagely fight for power and control as he rose through the ranks of the Maggia where he had ordered many killed along the way. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #75) Silvio Manfredi and Dominic Tyrone worked together for years to rise through the ranks of New York's criminal rackets and try to come out on top. Inseparable, they defeated every rival gang on the East Coast while building their position within the Maggia. After they became the bosses, they swore loyalty to each other, but Manfredi soon ordered a hit on Tyrone, and he got word that Tyrone had been killed. (Spectacular Spider-Man Annual v1 #2) While based in Rome, Manfredi employed Hammerhead as a hitman, and he wanted to see Hammerhead rise through the ranks. Manfredi praised Hammerhead after he killed his own father, then sent him to work in New York. (Spider-Man: Brand New Day - Extra! v1 #1) Years ago, Manfredi took a business trip to Japan and met Matsuko Ishii the CEO of Fujinet. The two came to sleep together where Silvio ended up fathering a child with her a daughter named Saya Ishii. Although he never took the time to meet her, Manfredi tracked his daughter's progress as she excelled in technology. (Silk v3 #4)
Thus, he came to be one of the last of the legendary old-time leaders of the Maggia. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #73)
Many years ago, Japan's tech industry was booming and Silvermane looked to capitalise on that leading to a meeting with Matsuko Ishii. The business trip led to him having spent the night together with her whereupon he returned to the U.S. the next day. Matsuko came to be pregnant with Silvermane's daughter who was named Saya Ishii who was raised by her mother with him not knowing about her until the girl was 16 years old. He later used his influence and resources to keep Matsuko's company Fujinet afloat over the years. Later on, he returned to Japan when Saya had graduated from university at the top of her class in the field of robotics. He then had her accompany him back to New York City where he kept her as an intern where she accepted after learning that her father was the only one keeping her mother's company operational. Silvermane noted that Saya proved to be a good intern and learnt much from her time working for her father. After learning from him, she returned to Japan to her mother and Fujinet. (Silk v3 #4)
Silvermane sent his men to take the lizard formula from Dr. Curt Connors, but they failed due to Spider-Man's interference. (Spider-Man: Reptilian Rage v1 #1) By this point, Manfreddi came to suffer from heart troubles that affected his health. Desperate to stay alive, he began seeking out the mysterious Tablet of Life and Time that was rumored to give eternal life. Silvermane had been researching the Tablet for years. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #74) Cicero brought in Louis Wilson, an employee of the Kingpin's, who had information on a mystic tablet. Silvermane was furious with Cicero for acting without orders. Marko returned, having grabbed the tablet, and Wilson verified that it was the real thing, though they were unable to translate the hieroglyphs on it. Cicero soon had Curt Connors brought in, again without orders, thinking he could complete the translation. To acquire the tablet, he dispatched Man Mountain Marko for the task. Caesar Cicero and Louis Wilson both came to Silvermane who ordered them to decipher the Lifeline Tablet. Silvermane caught his employee Caesar Cicero regularly seeking to undermine him, wanting to take Silvermane's place as a leader in the Maggia. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #73) Silvermane had Martha and Billy Connors brought in and held captive. Silvermane stopped Marko from harming Connors, who kept warning them that something bad could happen if they did not let him go. When Marko bad-mouthed Silvermane, he slapped Marko, but the effort caused his heart to act up briefly. After Spider-Man attacked, Cicero moved Martha and Billy to Silvermane's headquarters, infuriating the old man. Connors soon translated the text and worked on the serum. Silvermane seized the untested serum the moment it was finished. He collapsed in pain before standing up again, thrilled to be back in his young body. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #74) Silvermane sparred with Cicero to prove his authority, but Cicero witnessed that Silvermane continued to regress in age, growing younger and younger. Spider-Man attacked and an emboldened Silvermane challenged him to combat, but his confidence left as he regressed to a teenager and then a child. Soon, he disappeared into nothingness. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #75)
