The Toolbox is a device that features in Marvel Comics.

History

The Toolbox was a data storage device in the possession of Nick Fury with it containing files on all the secrets of S.H.I.E.L.D..

After the revelation of a vast Hydra conspiracy within S.H.I.E.L.D., Director Fury decided to fake his death and go into hiding. At the time, he met with Agent Phil Coulson and his Team that had been battling Hydra cell. During this time, S.H.I.E.L.D. was formally disbanded and its assets were confiscated with any of its operatives that refused surrender being declared rogue agents. Due to his trust in Coulson, Fury decided to appoint him the new Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and gave him the Toolbox. The reason was for Phil Coulson to gather the remnants of the organization and rebuild it again. It was through the Toolbox that Coulson learnt the location of Fury Secret Base 8 that was also known as the Playground and served as the new director's headquarters.

Overview

In appearance, it resembled a small black cube that could fit in the palm of the human hand. Whilst small, it was a powerful data storage device able to hold countless information as it could operate as an independent computer system that projected holograms as a user interface to access its countless files and databases. The information stored ranged from written documents to pictures to videos with the data able o be manipulate through hand motions. A wireless communication system allowed it to make contact with other computer based systems such as hand-held tablets.

Its outer shell was composed of a Vibranium alloy that protected it. Furthermore, a security feature meant that the interface operated on a DNA based encryption that meant only authorized individuals were able to access the Toolbox.

Notes

  • The Toolbox did not feature in the comics but was rather an original creation for the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
