Luis was a South American native employed by Dr. Carl Maia at his dig site. After discovering the fossilized hand of a half-man, half-fish creature, Dr. Maia took it to the Instituto de Biologia Maritima, leaving Luis and his friend Tomas to look after the camp. While Maia was gone, the Gill Man attacked the camp and killed both men.
