- Lord of the Rings: c. 5461 BC (III 1601). Argeleb II grants land to emigrating Periannath hobbits beyond Baranduin- the Shire is thus founded. The Shire-Reckoning calendar begins with this year. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 5432 BC (c. III 1630). Stoors from Dunland emigrate to the Shire. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 5428 BC (III 1634). Minardil, king of Gondor, is slain by Corsairs after they attack Pelargir. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 5426 BC (III 1636). A Great Plague afflicts Gondor. Among those that die are King Telemnar and his children. The White Tree at Minas Anor dies. The plague spreads from Gondor into nearby Eriador and the Shire. (The Return of the King)
- Lord of the Rings: c. 5422 BC (III 1640). Tarondor, king of Gondor, moves to Minas Anor and plants a new White Tree. As a result, Osgiliath decays and Mordor is left unattended. (The Return of the King)
