Origin

Infinite War

As the Seraphim began their invasion of the known worlds, many of the Aeon Illuminate joined the alien invaders and formed a new government called The Order which supported the enemy. However, Princess Burke opposed both the Seraphim and the Order which led to a schism in the Illuminate. At least a third of the Order abandoned their posts and instead pledged their allegiance to Princess Burke which led to them opposing their comrades and the Seraphim.

A New Conflict

The Colonial Defense Coalition remained into effect in the years after the Seraphim invasion and became the governing body of the known galaxy. One of its first acts was ending the Quantum Gate network which was a largely symbolic act and led to an end of the primary method of interstellar travel to distant star systems. This led to a restriction in the deployment of armies over vast distances and thus lowered the chances of another intergalactic war erupting between the Aeon Illuminate and the other two governments. However, this came at the cost of giving even greater isolation between the distant colonies but this was seen as an acceptable compromise. As a result of this act, each world contained its own governing body with the different factions remaining in name but maintained their own military forces as they were all now bound by a single set of ruling law.

With the loss of Princess Burke, the Illuminate government became corrupted with its leaders bowing easily to the pressures of the UEF. They even displaced the Guardians in terms of administering their people. As such, this led to an increase in dissident activity within the Illuminate and saw the rise of a terrorist group led by Jaran Kael and his sister Thalia Kael who intended to bring down their leaders who they believed had failed their people. One of their first actions was sinking a fleet of Cybran ships on an Aeon world and later stealing equipment as well as technology from an Illuminate abandoned armory. The Kael siblings also freed many trapped prisoners from a UEF prison colony and recruited them to their cause. Jaran Kael led his sister in later staging an assault on a geothermal facility held by the UEF in order to prevent them from using its resources. Initially, they were hardpressed in battling the two UEF commanders set to take the facility but were aided by a mysterious Cybran Commander called William Gauge. He later led the Kael's in assaulting the Coalition's Quantum Research and Development facility that was staffed by the Illuminate. Whilst initially hesitant to attack her own people, Gauge assured her that the Guardians had given their blessings in the attack and that the structure had been evacuvated. After completing their task, however, the Cybran Gauge betrayed the Kael's by launching warheads at the settlements around the facility and later claimed that he had claimed pieces of information about a device called Shiva Prime. Leaving his supposed "allies", the Kael's were not considered terrorists by their own people and felt that the Guardians had betrayed them.

Overview

The Aeon people believe in a concept known as 'the Way' which was taught to them by the alien Seraphim.

A Princess often served as the ruling authority within the Illuminate and she was often protected by her Royal Guardians. Another key position was the Avatar-of-War with those holding this position being considered the supreme commander of the Illuminate's military forces.

Technology

After the end of the Infinite War, whilst Quantum transportation technology had been abandoned, elements of the design was retained by the Illuminate. This was later used in the creation of the Space Temples; these structures were capable of teleporting Illuminate forces from one place to another. However, this created a two way door that allowed any individuals from the other side entry through the Space Temple thus potentially allowing them to assault an Illuminate base.

More disturbing examples of Aeon technology included the Loyalty Gun which fired an unknown form of energy over a limited radius and converted any enemies within the area to the Illuminate cause. This form of brainwashing allowed an Aeon force to increase their numbers through the use of the enemy's own forces.
