Biography

The Dark Hunter codenamed "Airwatcher" was discovered when two Dark Hunters arrived on his homeland for an unrelated mission. Airwatcher immediately attacked them both, killing one, but the other subdued Airwatcher and brought him back to Odina. There, the Shadowed One convinced Airwatcher to work for the Dark Hunters because it was better than the alternative (execution), and assigned him to patrol the mountainous range in the northern part of the island. Airwatcher was trained to kill anyone who entered that area apart from the Shadowed One and Sentrakh, who would sometimes hide items of importance there. Over his career, Airwatcher did capture and kill some other Dark Hunters who wandered into his patrol zone.

Airwatcher was on patrol when the Toa Nuva arrived on his part of Odina in search of the Staff of Artakha. Airwatcher trapped Lewa in an energy web and fired more webs at his teammates, but Tahu deflected them with the Hau Nuva's forcefield. Kopaka then froze Airwatcher's wings, causing him to fall to the ground, where Onua knocked him unconscious with a Pakari Nuva-powered punch to the face. (Toa Nuva Blog, Entry 3)

When the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, Airwatcher emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.

Overview

Personality and attributes

Like most living beings native to the Matoran Universe, Airwatcher is a biomechanical lifeform whose body consists of both organic and metallic protodermis. Airwatcher has notoriously poor critical thinking skills; the Shadowed One even once described him as someone who "makes Krekka look like a genius of the highest level". It is for this reason that Airwatcher is restricted to sentry work and is not dispatched on missions like other Dark Hunters.

Powers and abilities

As his codename implies, Airwatcher often watches Odina from the air by using his wings to fly short distances. His usual method of dealing with trespassers is to use a chest-mounted launcher to fire an energy web that binds and entraps them, then fire a stream of acid from his staff to dissolve them.

Notes

  • The Airwatcher model was created by Adrien Perinet and entered into the LEGO Magazine Dark Hunter Building Contest in 2005. Airwatcher was chosen as one of the winning entries, canonized by BIONICLE lead writer Greg Farshtey, and featured in the BIONICLE: Dark Hunters guidebook.
