Biography
Origin
Amon Sur was a male inhabitant of the planet Ungara where he was the son of the Green Lantern Abin Sur. (Green Lantern v3 #163)
In reality, Amon was not killed when Lianna blew his head off as Ungarans were not vulnerable to cranial injury as terrestrials. (Green Lantern v4 #17)
War of Light
Sinestro’s drill sergeant Arkillo sent Amon to Qward for initiation into the Sinestro Corps. He was met by Lyssa Drak, who told him he’d spend time in a fear lodge confronting his own fear until that fear powered his ring. Once he understood his own fear he’d be able to choose the method in ehich he’d spread fear throughout his space sector, his duty as a corpsman. Lyssa read him a story from the Book of Parallax about Sinestro Corps member Despotellis, a sentient virus who spread fear by wiping out planets with his disease. Amon Sur loved the story, and asked for one more before entering the fear lodge. (Green Lantern v4 #18) Lyssa told Amon Sur the story of Katu-Sil a Corps member from Graxos III, a world of hunters and sociopaths. She made people fear not through what she did, but who she was. (Green Lantern v4 #19) Lyssa told Amon the story of Bedovian, the Sinestro Corps sniper, and led him to his fear lodge. She warned him that inductees sometimes went mad or starved to death before finding the fear nin their hearts. Amon entered the lodge, and his first thoughts of fear were about Hal Jordan. (Green Lantern v4 #20) Sinestro gathered Amon and the Sinestro Corps on Qward. Sinestro laid out their mission of using fear to make the chaos of the universe bend to their will, and to replace it with law and order. Their first step was to burn anyone that would oppose their plan, so they had to destroy the Green Lantern Corps. They brought Kyle Rayner to Qward and stripped him of the Ion entity. Sinestro made Kyle feel fear, and infected him with the Parallax entity, which he then presented to his guardian, the Anti-Monitor. (Green Lantern: Sinestro Corps Special v1 #1) Sinestro sent out Amon and a number of his fellow corpsmen across the space sectors to pick off Green Lanterns one by one. (Green Lantern v4 #21)
During the Blackest Night, Amon Sur would be one of the many individuals that was resurrected as a member of the Black Lantern Corps. He would stand alongside other dead and reanimated Sinestro Corpsmen who attacked Sinestro at Zamaron that was the home of the Star Sapphires. (Green Lantern v4 #45) A battle ensued with the Black Lanterns whereby the acidic Sinestro Corpsman Slushh managed to temporarily stop Amon Sur by engulfing him in the goo of his body. This caused the black power ring to come off but just as the body went lifeless another black power ring quickly landed on the skeletal remains thus reanimating it again. Sur and the other Black Lanterns were only stopped by the timely intervention of Hal Jordan and the Indigo Tribe. They managed to combine their powers in the Emotional Spectrum that was able to cripple Amon Sur before ultimately destroying him completely. (Green Lantern v4 #46)

Video games
- In Green Lantern: Rise of the Manhunters, Amon Sur made an appearance in the video game where he was voiced by Steven Blum. He came to Oa to attend his father's funeral on Oa where he met with Hal Jordan who was chosen as the successor of Abin Sur's ring. At this point, Oa came under attack from the Manhunters though it was later revealed that Amon Sur had betrayed the Green Lantern Corps by allying with the villainous androids. This was because Amon Sur intended to get revenge against the Corps and Hal as he was angry that his father's ring had to a primitive like Jordan instead of himself. He served as an informant to the Manhunters and provided them information on the secret Vaults deep underground on Oa where the Yellow Energy of fear was held securely. After its recovery, he used it to empower himself with enough energy to destroy the Corps and made use of a staff composed of yellow energy though he was defeated by Hal Jordan on Oa.
