Biography
Over 80,000 years ago, Amphibax was a member of the Barraki Ehlek's army in the League of Six Kingdoms. When the Brotherhood of Makuta and their allies launched a surprise attack on the Barraki that resulted in their disappearance, Amphibax searched the seas in an attempt to find and rescue his former leader, to no avail. It is rumored that Amphibax lost his right hand during this search. (BIONICLE: Encyclopedia Updated, p. 9)
Amphibax was eventually recruited into the Dark Hunters, who outfitted him with a spiny whip in place of his lost hand. The Shadowed One often tasked him with raiding Brotherhood of Makuta ships and the coastlines of Matoran-inhabited islands due to his extreme agility, ability to survive at great depths for extended periods of time, and his looting skills. Amphibax gained a formidable reputation to the point where, at one time, mere mention of his name was enough to bring seagoing traffic to a halt. (BIONICLE: Dark Hunters)
After the Piraka defected from the Dark Hunters, Amphibax was assigned to monitor them and the events unfolding on Voya Nui, watching them from the seas around the island with his enhanced senses of sight and hearing. (BIONICLE: Dark Hunters)
When the Great Spirit Robot was critically damaged in the Battle of Bara Magna, Amphibax emigrated from the Matoran Universe to Spherus Magna.
Overview
Personality and attributes
Like most living beings native to the Matoran Universe, Amphibax is a biomechanical lifeform whose body consists of both organic and metallic protodermis. Amphibax is the Shadowed One's first choice and underwater or seaborne operations. According to the Shadowed One, Amphibax's personality is a combination of "the cunning of a natural predator, the cold, calculating intelligence of a thief, and the savagery of a Takea shark".
Powers and abilities
Amphibax is one of the strongest amphibious Dark Hunters. In water, he is a powerful swimmer and able to survive at great depths for extended periods of time, while on land, he is an equally powerful runner and is adept at climbing trees and other structures even despite the loss of his right hand. In addition, his eyesight and hearing is advanced to the point where he could successfully monitor the Piraka on Voya Nui without having to set foot on land. In combat, Amphibax relies on the sharp claws of his left hand and the spiny whip that was installed to replace his right hand.

- The Amphibax model was created by Willy Reese and entered into the LEGO Magazine Dark Hunter Building Contest in 2005. Amphibax was chosen as one of the winning entries, canonized by BIONICLE lead writer Greg Farshtey, and featured in the BIONICLE: Dark Hunters guidebook.
- Amphibax uses his real name instead of a codename, unlike most other Dark Hunters.
