History
The Amulet of Daylight was a mystical relic that was forged centuries ago by the wizard Merlin. It was crafted after his battle with his arch-foe Morgana Le Fey where she lost one of her arms. Merlin then used the powerful limb to forge a weapon to empower his champions to help defeat her creating a mystical line of warriors known as the Trollhunters.
The powerful troll Kanjigar the Courageous engaged in a fierce battle against the monstrous Bular over the Arcadia Oaks canal until Kanjigar sacrificed himself by falling into the sunlight, turning his physical body into stone to keep his magical gear out of enemy hands. Upon hitting the ground, Kanjigar shattered into pieces, exposing the hidden Amulet of Daylight which lay quietly in the debris. On his way to school, an ordinary teenager named Jim Lake Jr. noticed a strange, pulsing blue light emanating from the stone pile and discovered the clock-like, circular metallic device nestled in the rocks. When Jim picked up the artifact, the internal mechanisms suddenly clicked and mechanically shifted as the relic verbally spoke his name. After taking the magical object home, Jim carefully examined its ancient, inscribed edge markings in his bedroom during the evening. As the clock hands spun rapidly and the central blue gemstone glowed intensely, the artifact automatically triggered its high-powered summoning spell, instantly manifesting a heavy, glowing silver knight armor suit that physically latched onto Jim's body. This magical transformation sequence formally completed itself as the heavy metallic plates adapted to his exact physical size, officially marking the first time a human ever wore the uniform of the Trollhunter.
Jim Lake Jr. struggled to comprehend his sudden magical transformation as the silver knight armor suit instantly vanished back into the glowing core of the device. Confused by the object's responsive mechanics, Jim accidentally summoned the full metallic plates a second time while walking through his house, only to quickly learn that the armor would safely retract whenever he experienced intense panic or fear. Later that evening, the amulet's internal tracking beacon actively alerted the trolls Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! to Jim's exact physical coordinates, prompting them to infiltrate his home to formally greet the new champion. The sudden appearance of the massive creatures sent Jim fleeing into his basement, where Blinky enthusiastically explained the ancient, sacred history of the Trollhunter lineage. To prove the artifact's true combat capabilities, Blinky instructed Jim to firmly grasp the amulet and confidently recite its inscribed incantation, "For the glory of Merlin, Daylight is mine to command." Upon uttering the specific magical phrase, the artifact's gears spun rapidly to manifest the complete armor set while simultaneously forging a massive, glowing blue broadsword directly into Jim's hand, arming him just moments before the predatory beast Bular ambushed the basement to claim the relic for himself.
He later became the Amulet's first half-troll wielder and, ultimately, its last wielder after the Amulet was destroyed by the Arcane Order to resurrect Morgana. However, Krel and Stuart rebuilt the Amulet, upgraded with magic and Akiridion technology to make it stronger and more improved.
After resetting the timeline, Jim allowed his best friend, Toby Domzalski, to become the new timeline's Trollhunter. It's unclear if Jim still has his upgraded amulet after traveling back in time.
Overview
In appearance, the relic was a circular amulet that contained a blue mystical gem in the centre and crafted with a silver-shaped outer container. Its surface was decorated in numerous patterns and it was written in an ancient language that provided the incantation to call upon its power.
It is a compact, circular, metal amulet which essentially looks like a small, trollish-gothic-styled clock. All of its metal framework is built around a round, flat, crystal-blue gem called the Daylight stone. When the Triumbric Stones are inserted into the amulet, the gemstone inside glows a deep red. When Jim was controlled by King Arthur/The Green Knight after he was corrupted into a troll, the gemstone glowed yellow.
Its external frame features beveled-in lines and the amulet’s incantation, which is inscribed around the edge of the frame. The edge of the frame also has two tiny metal sculptures of what appears to be a dragon and a troll.
Inside the frame are two thin metal rings and a tiny arm which holds a disc, which spin around the edge of the amulet when it is activated. There is another small disc with a troll face carved in it, along with two metal “arms” which spin around the center of the amulet. One of those arms is a trident shape and the other is a knife-like shape.
The back of the amulet has six flaps which can hinge open to reveal six slots for gemstones to be inserted, which can give the amulet additional powers.
When the amulet is activated, it grants the user the Trollhunter Armor and the Sword of Daylight. The amulet can be ripped off its wearer or knocked off by excessive force. The amulet, as well as its armor and sword, will alter themselves to their user's proportions. When Jim first activated the armor and sword, they were set to the size of Kanjigar, its previous owner, before shrinking to fit Jim. Furthermore, if the wearer's size has been unnaturally altered, such as through a Furgolator, the amulet can change itself to match this size, which Jim used to fight Chompsky after the gnome had disarmed him.
Unknown to anyone, the stone inside contained a map that showed the way to Merlin's Tomb. The stone could be inserted into a Gyre and activate its map to lead to the site of its creator.
