Biography
Phoebus Apollo
was a male god who was the son of Zeus and part of the pantheon of the Olympians of Earth. He was born on Mount Cynthus on the island of Delos in the Mediterranean sea and had a sister named Artemis where he joined his kin in ruling from their realm of Olympus.
Long ago, he was present in the amphitheatre of Olympus when Hercules came before Zeus where he petitioned to wage war against the Asgardians. Apollo was among those that voted against further conflict as he saw no profit in it and that the Olympians had other concerns. (Thor Annual v1 #5) Around 2,000 years ago, the seer Sibylla who was the founder of the prophetic order of Sibyls came to the temple of Apollo and Diana at Mt. Gaurus during her adolescence. Once there, she dispensed warnings and foretellings that the gods revealed to her where she grew older and older over the years. It was then that Apollo appeared before her and offered her a place in Olympus as a reward for her many years of service. She, however, came to decline the offer and instead believed that she was still needed amongst the Sibyls and had to oversee the order. In his wisdom, Apollo then gifted her request allowing her spirit to rise and survive even as her corporeal body had turned to dust. This allowed Sibylla to advise each new generation of Sibyls for centuries from within their cavern home until the reign of Thaleia. It was under her leadership that the Sibylline sisterhood falter as the maddened seer offered her own frenzied verdicts on the visions of the gods. Under her reign, faith in the Sibyls began to decline and the seeress took her own life by drinking from a poisoned chalice thus leading to the end of the order. However, the prophetess failed to issue the final prophecy of the Black Oracle and came to seal Thaleia's spirit into her body so that she could issue it as a last act of redemption. (Doctor Strange v2 #46)
He was among the Olympians that spied on Hercules who was set to battle Thor Odinson once more in a match between the pair. Apollo decided to participate in the wager on Hercules getting a beating from the Asgardian. (Thor: Blood Oath v1 #3)
He was present at a time of war between Asgard and Olympus, and opposed the conflict. Apollo was also there when Zeus granted power to Thor to help resurrect the Asgardian gods. He came to aid Thor and the other gods in opposing Demogorge where he was consumed by the God-Eater but was then released unharmed. When Hercules' battle garb was destroyed, Apollo travelled to Earth and presented him with new battle garb. When Hercules was gravely wounded fighting the Masters of Evil, Zeus blamed the Avengers for his condition. Apollo sought to aid the Avengers in Olympus against the wrath of Zeus, but was struck down by Zeus. He later healed the injuries that Zeus had caused to Captain America and Doctor Druid.
Apollo, Artemis, and Hephaestus appear in a meeting with Hera and Pluto, where Hera reveals her plans to them.[6] Athena reached out to Apollo, but he refused to aid her, preferring to "wait and see". Apollo later appeared at Hercules' funeral, in the company of Athena (now the leader of the Olympians after the deaths of Zeus and Hera), Pluto, Neptune, and Hebe
After the Chaos War, Zeus regained his status as Skyfather and brought the city of Olympus to the mortal plane. It was then that Bruce Banner sought him out to use his god powers to fix the problems in his life and those of his friends. However, to accomplish that, he had to battle the various Olympian protectors of the city with Apollo being among the foes that the Hulk battled in order to seek an audience with Zeus. (Incredible Hulks v1 #621)
When Nyx was freed from her imprisonment, she along with her children sought their revenge against the Olympians with the gods of Olympus including Apollo being slain in the process. (Avengers: No Road Home v1 #2)
