History

Apostles (使徒 in Japanese) were once humans who succumbed to despair where they used a Behelit to sacrifice a loved one and thus were transformed into demons by the God Hand. The creation of Apostles came when Behelits were formed and scattered in the mortal world allowing those that acquired them the potential to ascend as demons.

Overview

In appearance, the form of an Apostle largely varied depending on the individual as they were an expression of their true inner self. Some were close to human in form whilst others were much more monstrous and beastly with some towering over humans.

To become an Apostle, a Beherit was needed by a human and it needed to be activated in their moment of despair. Once done, the God Hand were summoned where they ushered the caller into the ranks of demons in exchange for the sacrifice of something loved and precious to them.

Certain Apostles had the power to transform mortals into creatures resembling themselves though these pseudo-beings were referred to as half-Apostles.

Only a single absolute law was given to the Apostles by the God Hand which was "Do as thou wilt" thus giving them permission to act with impunity and use their Apostle forms freely as they wished in the world. This same law meant that an Apostle could equally target another one of their number or even turn against the God Hand if they so desired. Thus, it did not protect them from one another and allowed those loyal to the God Hand to destroy those that interfered with their masters plans.

Whilst buried among the dead, he came to find a Behelit among the waste which activated in his moment of despair and brought him to the God Hand where he desired to be useful by becoming an egg that would birth a new world. Thus, he was transformed into an Apostle who was the Egg of the Perfect World that was to sacrifice himself to allow Femto to be born in the world lands once more.
