Biography

Manifesting her Mutant power in Astonishing X-Men v3 #21.

Hisako Ichiki (市来 久子 Ichiki Hisako) was a female Japanese Mutant whose family lived in Tokyo in the modern age. She was noted to had a brother where she came to believe her father favoured him over her. (Astonishing X-Men v3 #36)

During training, she received a phone call from her family informing her that her mother and brother had died. The X-Men then accompanied her to Tokyo where she went to meet her estranged father. (Astonishing X-Men v3 #36) Hisako's father chided her for being selfish and not being with her family. During the funeral, she learnt a number of giant creatures from Monster Island were attacking Tokyo and she left to take her giant form to battle the beasts to protect the city. (Astonishing X-Men v3 #37)

Powers and abilities

As a Mutant, she had the ability to manifest a psionic exoskeleton that provided her superhuman abilities. (Astonishing X-Men v3 #4) Traditionally, her powers were not described as psychic though there was a psychic component to them due to her connection to her deceased relatives serving as the wellspring for her ability. (Astonishing X-Men v3 #39)

In time, she was able to project her exoskeleton form to gigantic proportions. (Astonishing X-Men v1 #36)

  • Armor was created by Joss Whedon and John Cassaday where she made her first appearance in Astonishing X-Men v3 #4 (October, 2004).

Television

  • In Marvel Anime: X-Men, Armor appeared in the animated television series where she was voiced by Japanese actress Yukari Tamura and by English actress Stephanie Sheh in the dub. When she was young she went to the academy for mutants where Yui Sasaki was the headmistress. One of her friends was Yui's son named Takeo Sasaki. On one occasion, he was teased and turned snowballs into fire, causing the fire to hurt Hisako who activated her powers for the first time. A fire broke out, and then Yui made Takeo erase the accident of the fire from everyone's minds. Hisako's parents contacted Emma Frost to be their daughter's guardian. They had online classes and Emma decided to travel to Japan to meet her student. In Tōhoku, she was walking to school. when the U-Men kidnapped her. Hisako and Emma were put to sleep in tubes and left the U-Men base until the X-Men arrived and rescued them. Kick attacked and Emma was in danger from Kick, Hisako activated her armor and with a punch stopped the cyborg. Hisako lost control of her armor, but Emma managed to make her regain control and everyone left the place. Outside the place, Kick attacked Hisako and Emma in her diamond form protected her. Hisako attacked Kick and he was destroyed by Logan. They all went to Hisako's home where she met her parents and Hisako upon hearing that Emma was going to New York also wanted to go and Emma convinced her parents to let her go. Arriving at Xavier Institute everyone was greeted by Professor Xavier. He was with Beast when Cyclops arrived and informed that Hisako and Emma were the new members of the team. Scott took her to the Danger Room to train and there he told her that he would be the opponent. Scott attacked her and provoked until Hisako activated her powers and attacked him finishing the training. Thanks to Charles, Emma was freed from suspicion and Emma joined the X-Men. The Blackbird went to Hisako's home where her parents were excited to see that she was a member of the X-Men. Scott with Emma and Hisako went to investigate a steel bridge that had been damaged. Afterwards, they were attacked by Sublime whom they managed to defeat. At night, they went to a cabin where Sasaki received them and Hisako told him that she remembered who he was with this causing Emma to become suspicious of Sasaki.
