Biography
Athrun Zala (Japanese: アスラン・ザラ, Hepburn: Asuran Zara) was a male Coordinator born as the son of Patrick Zala and Lenore Zala where he was born in December City of the PLANTs on October 29 in the Cosmic Era 55. In CE 61, Patrick Zala had sent his son to a preparatory school at Copernicus City on the Moon where he came to meet Kira Yamato with the two quickly becoming good friends. By CE 68, he had to return home after being recalled by his father but before leaving h built a robotic pet bird for Kira as a sign of their friendship. Upon his return to the PLANTs, he found that his father had arranged an engagement between Athrun and noted PLANT pop idol Lacus Clyne.

Personality and attributes
The death of Nicol Amalfi caused Athrun to snap and he became resolved with killing his best friend Kira.
Powers and abilities
It was known that he had underwent training at the ZAFT military academy.
