Baragon

Baragon is a kaiju that has appeared in the Godzilla universe.

A survivor from prehistoric times, Baragon was a large a monstrous dinosaur with a single, glowing horn sprouting from his forehead. Baragon's precise origins are unknown, although World War II veteran turned oil rig foreman Kawai, who witnessed the monster's attack on his rig, postulated that Baragon was a dinosaur who had escaped extinction by becoming a subterranean creature and living underground for millions of years. Indeed, Baragon possessed remarkable digging abilities and had a tendency to travel underground, coming to the surface only to feed, with humans and livestock being his favorite food.

Because no one survived the majority of Baragon's attacks, and were thus unable to impart to the authorities that the culprit was a flesh-eating burrowing dinosaur, the majority of Japan was convinced that the escaped Frankenstein was behind the attacks. Despite the best efforts of Kawai and Dr. James Bowen and his colleagues to prove otherwise, the police and military continued to hunt Frankenstein until finally Baragon made his presence known to the world in an attack against Bowen's party, during which time he almost killed Bowen's colleague Dr. Yuzo Kawaji.

Frankenstein however appeared and rescued Dr. Kawaji, and thereafter battled Baragon in a fight to the death, a battle the gigantic boy won by breaking Baragon's neck and killing him. Despite this, another Baragon later appeared, and was interred by the authorities on Monster Island along with Godzilla and the rest of the world's monsters. Whether this the original Baragon, having survived his broken neck, or another member of his species, is unknown.

Millennium

Baragon is one of the three Guardian Monsters whose sacred duty is to defend the land of Japan from attack. He is the God of Earth. When Godzilla, a manifestation of the angry souls of everyone killed during World War II, appeared and threatened to destroy Japan, Baragon was the first Guardian Monster to be awakened to challenge Godzilla. He used his burrowing abilities to create a gigantic pit into which Godzilla fell and was briefly trapped. Although a brave and fierce fighter, the God of Earth proved to be no match for Godzilla, who beat him savagely. A weakened Baragon attempted to crawl out of the pit but was burned to death with Godzilla's atomic breath.

However although his body died, Baragon's spirit lived on. Along with the spirit of Mothra, he revived the mortally wounded King Ghidorah later on, and, upon Ghidorah's death, Baragon joined the souls of the other two and all three Guardian Monsters infused themselves into Godzilla's body in a last-ditch effort to destroy him with their combined power.
