- The Bat-Signal was created by Jack Schiff and Bob Kane where it made its first appearance in Detective Comics v1 #60 (February, 1942).

- In Batman, the Bat-Signal had a minor appearance in the setting of the live-action television series.
- In Batman: The Animated Series, the Bat-Signal appeared in the setting of the 1990s animated television series set in the DC Animated Universe where it was built by Commissioner Gordon in the episode "The Cape and Cowl Conspiracy".
- In The Batman, initially the Bat-Signal did not appear with it instead replaced with the Bat-Wave in the setting of the animated television series.
- In Harley Quinn, the Bat-Signal appeared in the setting of the animated television series start in the episode "You're a Damn Good Cop, Jim Gordon".

- In DC Universe Online, the Bat-Signal appeared in the setting of the 2010 MMORPG where it was located on the top of the GCPD 9th station in the East End of Gotham.
- In Injustice: Gods Among Us, the Bat-Signal appeared as a background item in the Gotham stage of the fighting video game.
