Beholder-kin
From Multiversal Omnipedia
Beholder-kin are a variety of creatures related to the more common beholder. There are two categories of beholder-kin:
- The common beholder-kin, who basically resemble common beholders in form (round body with eyestalks and/or a central eye). These include the Eyes of the Deep, the Gauths, the Spectators, the Death Kiss, the Orbus and the Hive Mothers.
- Abominations are beholder-kin who differ significantly from the beholder standard. Usually specially bred by the Hive Mothers, they are held in lower esteem than their more common cousins. Known abominations include the Directors, the Examiners, the Lensmen, the Overseers and the Watchers.

This classification method was largely dropped in Dungeons and Dragons 3rd Edition.
