History

Origin

DC

Monarch would oppose the Monitors observing him and learn that a perfect place to hide from them was in the Bleed. During one moment in the Bleed, he encountered a group of Daemonites that he helped defeat when he met a displaced Kyle Rayner who was holding the power of the Ion entity. (Ion v1 #10)

It was from within the Bleed that his headquarters was used as an arena whereby inhabitants from across the Multiverse were brought together to battle one another to add to Monarch's army. (Countdown: Arena v1 #1)

Post-Flashpoint

Following the Flashpoint, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events.

Mother Blood of the Church of Blood sought to gain access to the Bleed in order to introduce a Multiversal corruption that would bring the Red fully under her control and spread its power across the Multiverse. (Titans v3 #34)

Overview

This dimension was said to be a multiversal conduit. (Titans v3 #34)

It was described as being similar to an ocean and a river with it being a place between places. (Ion v1 #10) Inter-dimensional crossings through this interstitial space registered Bleed signature. (Justice League v2 #51) Within the Bleed, there was too much hyperdimensional data for the regular senses of humans that struggled to cope with the information. (Titans v3 #34)

The Bleed was said to naturally insulate against Source energy. (Titans v3 #34)

Notes

  • The Bleed was created by Warren Ellis and Bryan Hitch where it made its fist appearance in Wildstorm Comics Stormwatch v2 #7 (May, 1998).
  • In Smallvile: Season 11, the Bleed was shown as being an important fabric of the Multiverse and used by the Monitors who had harnessed for their use. It was shown that a special breed of Monitor known as Weavers could manipulate it as a weapon. Red Bleed erased everything it touched but there was also Blue Bleed that broke matter down but it was stored allowing it to be recreated.
