Biography

Abigail Brand was a female individual who was human-extraterrestrial hybrid whose father was an alien. (Giant-Size Astonishing X-Men v1 #1) Her father had been the only survivor of a Zn'rx Snarkwar that was responsible for killing his people. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #5)

The Peak was later visited by Dum Dum Dugan as part of an inter-agency initiative which was when the Skrulls began their Secret Invasion of Earth. It was shown that Dugan was actually a Skrull infiltrator who activated explosives that destroyed the station allowing for the alien armada to arrive unopposed in orbit around Earth. A number of the stations S.W.O.R.D. personnel were killed whilst Brand and others were left in life support bubbles with a limited air supply. (Secret Invasion v1 #1) Despite her situation, Brand managed to make her way to one of the alien ships where she broke through the airlock to enter into the vessel. She managed to make her way through the ship to the command centre allowing her to see the Skrull invasion efforts. Abigail later found herself in an examination room that kept the captive Mr. Fantastic who initially believed her to be an alien infiltrator and attacked her as a result before he was convinced that she was the real Brand. (Secret Invasion v1 #5)

S.W.O.R.D. came to register an unknown extraterrestrial object that had crashed on Earth with Jessica Drew volunteering to investigate but contact was lost with her. This resulted in Director Brand approaching Commander Steve Rogers who organised the Avengers to recover their teammate and Abigail accompanying them. They found Spider-Woman a captive of the Intelligencia who captured her when she had discovered a crashed Spaceknight that they sought to study. The Avengers defeated the team of supervillain geniuses at which point the Spaceknight activated and was revealed to contain the mind of the Ultron A.I. who reshaped its form into a new body for himself. He defeated the Avengers with Abigail revealing that S.W.O.R.D.'s monitoring of galactic chatter revealed that Ultron had created havoc in other parts of the universe but had now returned to Earth as Iron Man worried about the threat posed by their old foe. (Avengers v4 #12.1)

With the Cotati invasion over, Brand attended the wedding of Hulkling and Wiccan where she blamed Carol Danvers for her failure in informing everyone about the scale of the threat to the Earth. This saw her deciding to quit Alpha Flight as she saw it as being ineffective in the defence of the planet and instead sought to achieve that goal through her own means. (Empyre: Aftermath Avengers v1 #1) She was then invited by the Mutant nation of Krakoa to head a new S.W.O.R.D. program sponsored by the country who had reactivated the Peak space station. Brand accepted and she worked in conjunction with the Quiet Council of Krakoa in the defence of the planet where she was aided by teams of Mutant operatives. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #1) Director Brand secretly came to recruit a Mutant assassin named Khora of the Burning Heart from Arakko where alongside Amelia Voght the pair were sent to assassinate the clan leaders of the contenders for he Zn'rx throne during the Snarkwar. This was to remove the war-like heirs and leave a radial modernist peaceful ruler in charge of the Zn'rx who would owe a debt to Krakoa as a result. (S.W.O.R.D. v2 #5)
