Cain Madhouse is a male anime and manga character who features in To the Abandoned Sacred Beasts.

History

Cain Madhouse (Japanese: ケイン・マッドハウス, Hepburn: Kein Maddohausu) was a male human who was originally born as Cain Withers where he was the son of Richard Withers and the older brother of Claude Withers. His father was the President of the Northern Union of Patria during a time when the land of Patria was engaged in a Civil War with the Southern Confederation of Patria. As a child, he met a pair of war orphans named Elaine Bluelake and Hank Henriette where the three of them became close friends. Bluelake later took part in a secret research initiative to give the Northern Union an advantage in the war against their enemies. This led to her pioneering a process that transformed select candidates in Incarnates where they took on the qualities of mythical monsters. Among those that underwent the procedure included both Cain Withers and Hank Henriette where the former was turned into the Vampire Incarnate. This saw him being assigned to the Incarnate Soldier Unit where he served as a Lieutenant under Captain Henriette. The Incarnates were powerful weapons for the Northern Union where they massacred their Southern opponents leading to many victories for their nation. At the height of the conflict, Bluelake came to discover that life as an Incarnate would lead to the human eventually succumbing to their monstrous instincts and lose their humanity where they would kill everyone around them. In addition, the North looked to end the Civil War by signing a peace treaty with the Southern Confederation. Upon learning of this information, Bluelake believed the only solution was to terminate the Incarnate Soldier Unit with her special Godkiller Bullets where she confessed this to Lieutenant Withers. He agreed to help her and she commenced the first kill against Captain Henriette. However, Cain betrayed her and killed Elizabeth where he had no intention of himself or the other Incarnates to die. Thus, he along with his fellow soldiers left the wounded Captain Henriette behind as they abandond their positions. As a result, Withers came to be regarded as a traitor to the Northern Union and was known as Cain Madhouse where he along with the other Incarnates were targeted for elimination.
