Biography

Caitlin Snow

Whilst studying her Ph.D. she was part of a research group where her Professor claimed that she could never achieve her degree with her nearly deciding to quit her studies. At the time, the group attended a symposium at Metropolis where she managed to see Superman for the first time. Seeing a man that could fly gave her courage to continue with her studies in college. (Justice League vs. Suicide Squad v1 #3) One of her teachers was Dr. Prahbdeep Sandu where she worked hard in his classes as a grad student and he was responsible for recruiting her into S.T.A.R. Labs once her doctorate was approved. (Justice League of America v3 #7.2)

She was regarded as the youngest and brightest scientist that S.T.A.R. Labs had ever recruited. (Justice League of America v3 #7.2)

Around 3 years ago, she was sent to head S.T.A.R. Labs outpost #72 in the Arctic where she met Dr. Joseph Nolan. During the tour, she was shown the outposts Self-sustaining Thermodynamic Ultraconductor (STU) engine. Snow was chosen to replace the former head of the site Dr. Lincoln with Caitlin looking to recreate her research. She was then betrayed by the other scientists at the outpost who were responsible for killing Lincoln and were secretly working for H.I.V.E. that did not want the technology at the facility to be made public. They then locked her in the room with the ultraconductor in order to brush away her death as an accident whilst attempting to repair the machine. (Justice League of America v3 #7.2)

Killer Frost was among a group of supervillains hired by Multiplex to attack Firestorm with her working alongside Black Bison, Hyena, Typhoon and Pastique. They were tasked with capturing him so that Multiplex could begin siphoning the power of the Firestorm Matrix for himself. (Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men v1 #19)

Batman then arranged for her release so that she could become a superhero though Waller came to delay the papers for another day in order to arrange for an incident so that Snow would inadvertently kill someone due to her hunger. This included arranging for Snow to get a pyrokinetic roommate named Heatstroke in order to tempt Killer Frost into feeding on her. Caitlin managed to survive by secretly taking heat through brief physical contact with various people to keep her functioning. This allowed her to be eventually released where the bomb was removed from her and she was greeted by Batman waiting for her on the other side of Belle Reve Penitentiary. Snow was transformed from her exposure to the ultraconductor and her desperation in saving herself from being murdered. (Justice League of America v3 #7.2) This allowed her to control, generate and manipulate ice from her body allowing her to achieve a variety of effects. She was able to freeze people or objects or generate icicles that were sharp enough to cut a target. Though seemingly normal ice, it was said to be something more with it carrying within it a biological component that prevented it from being easily transmuted by Firestorm. (Fury of Firestorm: The Nuclear Men v1 #19)

However, Caitlin was able to drain small quantities of heat from another person with her just taking enough to sustain herself and keep her hunger at bay. (Justice League of America: Killer Frost Rebirth v1 #1)
