Biography
'Canaan' (Japanese: カナン, Hepburn: Kanan) was the name given to a female human who lived in a village in the Middle East. Her actual name was not known and much of her early past was a mystery. Her village was destroyed during in a war and the child was the only survivor. She had actually been infected with the Ua Virus but did not die from the disease. Instead, it imparted on her synthesia that combined all her senses and linked them with her vision. She survived the destruction and remained in her ruined home. Beneath the wooden floor in the rubble of the house, she remained there silent and alone until a man named Siam found her. He would take her with him and gave her the name 'Canaan' as he began to look after her and train her in combat skills. Siam trained her and acted like a father figure to her in some ways. As a result, she came to love and respect him with her enjoying her time with him. In this time, she met one of his students named Alphard Alshua and got a tattoo on her arm. After Siam was murdered, she claimed that she list her light.
Two years after the events of 428: Shibuya Scramble, attendees of the Shanghai NBCR International Anti-Terrorist Conference came to be targeted by terrorists. In Shanghai, Canaan came to save the life of Maria Ōsawa who was being targeted by masked assassins.
After using her power to hack the B-2's GPS system and let the bombs miss the conference hall to save the dignitaries inside while heavily armed PLA Special Operations Forces troopers escorted Kenji safely at the outskirts of the hall, she begins to lose her abilities to see colors until she regain her synesthesia when she was ambush by Liang Qi as her target with firing rockets, temporarily sealing her in rubble with Alphard.
Overview
Personality and attributes
In appearance, she was a young woman whose hair was originally black that changed white after being exposed to the Ua Virus. She was shown as being in her mid to late teens with a slim muscular figure. Typically, she wore a sleeveless red shirt, tan khakki pants, combat boots and a red layered wrapping on her left arm to hide her tattoo.
She believed that an individual needed to do the best they could to survive and go on living.
Due to her abilities, she stated that she liked guns because they had no colour.
For a time after losing her powers, Canaan became unsure of herself and her ability to protect her friend Maria.
After being taken in by Siam, she came to see him as an adoptive father figure and Alphard as an older sister as a result. She developed a respect for her mentor during the course of her training and later to Alphard as well.
Alphard's betrayal came to affect her deeply as this resulted in Saim being left to die. This caused Canaan being consumed by a quest for revenge against Alphard. As a result, she was always serious during her encounters with her former comrade.
Her life of isolation for most of her life led to her treasuring her friendship with Maria Ōsawa. She came to be the first friend she had in years and she priortised her safety above all else. Canaan came to ruthlessly kill anyone she deemed a threat to Maria. Outside of mercenary work, she came to enjoy her time with Maria as they lived a normal life.
Powers and abilities
Canaan was originally born an ordinary human being with no special inherent ability. When she was young, she came to be infected with the Ua Virus and was the only survivor from the disease. An unexpected development from the viral exposure was Canaan being imparted with an ability known as synesthesia. This allowed her to concentrate and combine her various senses. It was this trait that linked her various sensory experiences to her vision. As a result, experiences such as those from smell and sound manifested as various colors to her. Each of the colors represented a different emotion behind them. Blue was danger or hate and a killing intent with Canaan stating that the sun appeared blue to her which was why she did not like it. Green represented the person being scared and gray showed that the person experienced hunger. Though potent, she relied greatly on these hyper-senses which did cause Canaan to neglect small details. When fully controlled, she could easily determine the actions of her opponent and counter their moves. She uses this ability as a radar to locate others, to hack into mechanical systems, and to dodge/deflect bullets easily. If she overused her ability, however, her strength will be exhausted and she could collapse.
She came to be a skilled marksman and an expert of combat with these talents making her an elite mercenary.
Her weapon of choice most of the time was the Beretta Px4 Type G 9 mm semi-automatic pistol.
