John Davis
Captain John Davis was the captain of the Ipecacuanha, whose job it was to ferry Montgomery and several animals to Dr. Moreau's island. A drunkard, he often argued with Montgomery and considered Moreau's experiments to be unnatural. He took an instant dislike to Prendick (who he called "Mister Shut Up") after the Ipecacuanha picked him up, and so forced him upon Moreau and Montgomery upon delivering his cargo to the island.
Shortly after leaving the island, bound for Hawaii, the Ipecacuanha sank. Davis and another man escaped in a lifeboat, but died of unknown causes sometime thereafter. The lifeboat drifted all the way back to Moreau's island with the corpses in it, providing Prendick with a means of escape. The bodies of Davis and his crewman were left on the beach and eaten by the reverted Beast People.
