Montgomery
Montgomery was the assistant of Dr. Moreau. Once a promising medical student, he had a drinking problem which resulted in him committing an unspecified crime in London, forcing him to free the country. He could only find work with the equally disgraced Moreau. Despite his drinking he was an able-bodied man and a competent enough scientist and doctor, although something of a nihilist.
Montgomery's relationship with Moreau's creations was touch and go. He could see in them the danger of rebellion should they realize he and Moreau weren't gods, or should they regress, but he still tried to treat them as equals, in particular M'Ling, whom Montgomery was very protective of, especially when the imbecilic Captain Davis bullied him.
When the Ipecacuanha picked up the drifting Edward Prendick, Montgomery nursed the starving man back to health (later, in his apathy, he claimed he only did it because he was bored). He and Prendick formed a loose friendship that lasted until Montgomery's death on the island, after he made the fatal mistake of giving liquor to the beast people in the wake of Moreau's death. He was killed during a fight that ensued.
Island of Lost Souls
Montgomery survives the events on the island, and escapes aboard Captain Donahue's ship along with Edward Parker and Ruth Thomas, as Moreau's laboratory is burned to the ground.
