Biography
Carlton Drake
He hired Chance where he paid him $25,000 to steal European armaments though afterwards he considered deducting from his fee due to ruining his carpet. Afterwards, Drake was responsible for electrifying Chance but decided to keep him alive. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #298) Drake and his men then had Chance transported to his survivalist facility at Sanctum Maximus in order to demand the mercenary to tell him the secrets of his suit. It was only the intervention of Spider-Man was Chance freed from captivity where together they destroyed the facility with Drake having to escape via his helicopter. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #299)
Drake next teamed up with the foreign assassin Chakane in a plot to use Protectors, enhanced and mindless mercenaries, for the assassination of Symkaria's king. The Protectors are defeated by Spider-Man, Paladin and Silver Sable but Drake's resources prevent any prosecution. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #321) Afterwards, Drake used the Tri-Sentinel for his clientele's protection. While performing a 'field test' against Spider-Man and Nova, the Tri-Sentinel was unresponsive to his controls and went on a rampage. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #351) With nothing else to lose, Drake has his men gather all the data and once again evade capture. (Amazing Spider-Man v1 #352) Drake briefly teamed up with Justin Hammer and Jonas Hale in an effort to steal superpowers for their own nefarious purposes, but were stopped by Spider-Man and the New Warriors. (Amazing Spider-Man Annual v1 #26)
Separating the Venom symbiote from Eddie, Drake forcibly extracted five offspring from it and bonded them to mercenaries the Life Foundation had hired as security guards. (Venom: Lethal Protector v1 #4) Drake decided Eddie Brock had outlived his usefulness, but Donna Diego attacked a mall to test the capabilities of her new symbiote and drew the attention of Spider-Man, who helped Eddie escape, reunite with the Venom symbiote, and seemingly kill the Life Foundation's symbiote squad. (Venom: Lethal Protector v1 #5)
