Carnictus

Carnictuses were giant worm-like creatures that lived in the muck at the bottom of a deep chasm bridged by a fallen log on Skull Island. They are descendants of tapeworms that evolved after millions of years of isolated evolution in dark corners of the island. The large tapeworms that infected the dinosaurs often were passed along with their feces into pits and chasms found throughout the island. Because of the isolation of Skull island from the rest of the world, the pits and chasms (that served as giant toilets for the dinosaurs) became breeding grounds for parasites that infected the dinosaurs digestive tracks. Millions of years of evolution allowed these tapeworms to evolve into a creature that no longer needed a host to survive. Carnictuses are described by the natives of Skull Island as "giant stomachs without bodies" whose "sole existence is to digest prey." They prefer to stay out of direct sunlight, continuing to reside in the dark chasms and deep pits where the dinosaurs are still accustomed to passing their bowels. Biding their time, waiting for prey, they often conserve energy by partially burying themselves in mud and feces at the bottom of shallow pools and puddles. Occasionally a young dinosaur hatchling, or wounded dinosaur, or a Islander native child, will fall into one of the many pits found around Skull Island where many insects and parasites thrive. Often carnictuse will scavenge the corpses and remains of prey that the other insects and parasites kill. However carnictuse are also known for their ferociousness toward any living creature unfortunate enough to cross its path. They had fanged, extendable maws with hook-like teeth that they inherited from their tapeworm ancestors. They grab prey, hooking their teeth into the flesh into their victim, and then proceed to draw the morsel of food into their bodies, where they begin to slowly digest the creature, often while still alive. Natives that have captured and killed carnictuse has discovered that their digestive juices are similar to that of the stomachs of other island dinosaur, perhaps inherited by the evolutionary process, whereby their tapeworm ancestors learned to survive. Several of the S.S. Venture's crew fell down there after being shaken from the log by King Kong, Lumpy was eaten alive by the carnictuses, the first reported human death by carnictuse, not including undocumented Skull Island natives.
