Charlie Gereson

Charlie Gereson was a grad student at Horlicks University who studied under Dexter Stanley. He was still attending the university during the summer season so he could work on his project involving the study of ear mites, work which Dexter often said would win the young man the Nobel Prize. Sent out to get some food by Mike Latimer, Charlie returned to the university late at night to run into a babbling Dexter.

Dexter told him what had happened. About Mike's death and the crate they'd found "Pretty far out, Professor Stanley," Charlie replied, clearly not believing a word of it. To his credit however, Charlie went to look anyway, albeit against Dexter's protests. When they returned to the classroom, all the blood was there but the crate was gone. Charlie momentarily thought Dexter was the killer, but Dexter was too busy hunting for the crate to care. He followed the trail of blood and it led back under the stairs, where they found the crate along with one of Mike's bloody and torn shoes. Charlie wanted to retrieve the shoe in order to measure the bite marks, so he armed himself with a wrench and ventured towards the crate.

Suddenly, the monster from the crate attacked Charlie from the shadows, slashing him across the chest with its claws. It moved to attack Dexter, but Charlie hit it with a wrench. This only served to make the beast mad, and it promptly bit off half of Charlie's head, then slammed him against the wall, killing him.
