Biography

Cameron Kim in City Boy v1 #1.

Cameron Kim

When he was still a child, his mother brought him to Metropolis to meet his grandfather. Whilst there, he found that his mother had abandoned him and left in a car leaving Cameron behind. (City Boy v1 #1) In this time, the other children used to bully Kim commenting on how his mother left him with this making him angry. (City Boy v1 #2)

Ten years ago, he was alone and hungry on the streets of the city where he opened any door to find anything to eat. It was then he stumbled on a secret experiment conducted by Intergang that had created a machine designed to empower a living organism to become a conduit to the complicated system of a city. At the time, there was a gathering of architects, engineers, criminal masterminds, city planners and politicians that had volunteered to be empowered in this manner. When activated, Cameron came to find himself as one of the people that the machine attempted to bond to the city. It turned out to be a success where Kim attempted to escape but was apprehended by the guards. They began an attempt to brainwash Kim in order to present him to their master, Darkseid. (City Boy v1 #1)

Kim navigated the streets of an urban environment and utilized his sensory connection to the city to identify the location of valuable discarded items. He crouched on a pavement and used his hands to physically manipulate the concrete, causing the solid material to shift and part as if it were liquid. From the opening he created, he retrieved a gold necklace and a piece of high-end technology that had been buried beneath the surface. He then moved to an alleyway where he engaged in a verbal exchange with a group of individuals while examining the items he had acquired. When confronted by a security force, he utilized his ability to alter the surrounding architecture, causing the ground and nearby walls to rise and reshape themselves into defensive barriers. He maneuvered through the changing landscape to evade capture, ultimately using the city’s structural feedback to find a secure path away from the immediate area. (Wildstorm 30th Anniversary Special v1 #1)

Kim was wandering the city when his activities drew the attention of a homeless man named Fujimoto. He knew of Cameron's ability to find things and decided to follow him where he recovered some money that Kim had found. At first, Fujimoto looked to treat them but they were approached by crime boss Hyung of the Moon Cut gang. Fujimoto owed the gang money for operating in their territory and began to coerce Cameron into paying them as well. Scared of being discovered, Kim agreed and began finding items across the city in the hope of earning enough money to leave. However, he was approached by Hyung who took notice of his talent at finding things and did not want the boy to leave. Taking Fujimoto hostage, he confronted Kim and looked to force him to stay as a member of the Moon Cut gang. Attacked by the gang, the angry Kim came to unleash his powers when he thought Fujimoto was killed. (City Boy v1 #1) His powers allowed him to push aside the Moon Cut gang and looked to see the memories the city had of Hyung. However, Kim came to be overwhelmed by them greatly leaving him a great deal of pain. It was then that the site was attacked by Intergang headed by Bruno Mannheim who looked to recover Kim. Taking him captive, they returned him to Dr. Mokkarison who looked to continue his experiments on Cameron. (City Boy v1 #2)

After being left by his mother, he came to turn his grief and fear into guile and strength. (City Boy v1 #1)

Powers and abilities

Despite his heritage, Cameron never learnt Korean and thus could not speak it. (City Boy v1 #1)

This was until he was unwittingly involved in an experiment by Dr. Mokkarison. (City Boy v1 #2)

He came to be bonded to the sentient essence of a city. (City Boy v1 #2) City Boy exhibited a specialized form of clairvoyance that allowed him to perceive urban environments as living, interconnected organisms. He demonstrated the ability to 'communicate' with a city to locate hidden, buried, or lost objects of value, such as jewellery or historical artefacts, which he then retrieved for personal gain. His sensory perception provided him with a detailed awareness of a city's history and structural layout, enabling him to identify specific points of interest or danger that remained invisible to standard human observation. Additionally, he showed the capacity to physically manipulate the urban landscape, including the molecular fabric of streets and buildings. This ability allowed him to reshape concrete and brick structures according to his needs, effectively using the city's components as tools or barriers. He also maintained a level of tactical awareness that permitted him to navigate complex urban settings while avoiding detection by hostile parties. (Wildstorm 30th Anniversary Special v1 #1)

Through his connection with the city, he could see anything hidden within its landscape. This allowed him to find lost items trapped beneath the ground which he could recover. Kim could use it to recover lost items and scrap that he could use to make money. (City Boy v1 #1)

He displayed the ability to read the past of objects touched that he has found through his Urban Clairvoyance. (Lazarus Planet: Legends Reborn v1 #1) According to him, contact with an object allowed him to see everything the city had seen concerning that person. However, sometimes, Cameron could be bombarded with too much information from the city to the point it overwhelmed him and leaving him in pain. (City Boy v1 #2)

With his power, he could warp the landscape of a city in a burst of energy that could knock aside foes. (City Boy v1 #1)

Using his abilities, he could tap into the landscape and fashion a physical body for the city to serve him. This could lead him to creating a monstrous body such as a dragon for the city's intelligence that would follow City Boy's commands. (City Boy v1 #2)
