Biography

Claire Bennet was a female human born to Nathan Petrelli and Meredith Gordon, two people possessing abilities. When Claire was 18-months old, Noah Bennet and his partner, Claude Raines, agents of the Company, arrived at her mother, Meredith's, house to abduct Claire. Claude proceeds inside to do the heavy lifiting whilst Noah waits outside until Meredith combusted and blew the door open. Noah runs inside, finding Claire and carrying her out of the burning house. Noah and his wife, Sandra, later adopt her. In the graphic novel Elle's First Assignment, which takes place before the series begins, Bob gives Elle her first assignment, which is to track and follow Claire, posing as a student at Union Wells High School. Elle is reluctant, but Bob informs her that Claire will be important to the Company. Claire is unaware that Elle was following her.

Six months ago, Claire had just become a cheerleader at her high school, with the help of her friend Jackie Wilcox. During an argument on whether or not she wants to be a cheerleader with Jackie, Claire crashes into a glass case, cutting her hand. When they show Claire's parents, her mother, Sandra, suggests Claire might need stitches. After Claire, Jackie, and Sandra leave for the hospital, the phone rings, and Noah answers. It is Chandra Suresh, a scientist who studies paranormal phenomena, informing him of Claire's power. Several days later, Noah asks if he can see her hand with the stitches. When they unravel the cloth around her hand, they are both surprised to see not even a small scratch.

Upon discovering that her body could instantly recover from extreme physical trauma, she began secretly documenting her capabilities alongside a classmate named Zach, who recorded her performing hazardous stunts. She repeatedly filmed herself jumping from high structures and walking through a localized chemical fire, completely resetting her bone structure and healing her burnt tissue within seconds without leaving scars. Claire's school classmate Zach videotapes her climbing up to an 80-foot height and jumping off. After falling to the ground, Claire brushes herself off and re-locates her dislocated right shoulder. Turning to the camera, she identified herself as she listed her attempts at breaking every bone in her body, stabbing herself in the chest, and shoving a steel rod through her neck. She confesses that she fears being seen as a freak by her friends, right before rescuing someone from a semi-truck/train accident and then fleeing without injury. After coming home, she attempts to tell her mother about her abilities during dinner, saying, "I walked through fire and didn't get burned." Claire's mother doesn't comprehend, believing her daughter's statement to be metaphorical. Later, Claire mentions to her mother that she knows she is adopted and asks about her 'real parents'. Her father comes home, and turns out to be the man with the horn-rimmed glasses, who has been encountering Mohinder Suresh in India and New York. (Episode: Genesis)

She wore a matching short, pleated maroon mini-skirt accented by a thick white trim, white athletic wristbands, and white ankle-high sports socks. She was a highly exceptional member of her species due to her manifestation of rapid cellular regeneration, a unique genetic anomaly that completely altered her internal healing mechanisms. Her primary power was spontaneous tissue regeneration, which enabled her body to instantly close open lacerations, mend compound bone fractures, and repair third-degree thermal burns within seconds of sustaining injury. This passive biological asset operated completely independent of her conscious control, allowing her to survive extreme blunt-force impacts and toxic environments that would cause immediate death to an ordinary human host. Claire could spontaneously regenerate any tissue in her body, allowing her to recover from almost any injury within seconds to minutes — though she does need larger objects, embedded foreign objects to be manually removed from her body, or bones pushed back into position for the wounds to heal properly, bullets can automatically remove out of her body and heal quickly without other things help. Although Sylar, after studying and taking her power, remarks that he would not be able to kill her even if he wanted to and that she will never die.

Thanks to her power, she has an incredibly high pain tolerance; Claire states that, when injured, she feels pain just as severe as anyone else who was injured in such a way, but her power quickly deadens the pain.

• Writers Joe Pokaski and Aron Coleite had confirmed that methods such as decapitation or incineration would indeed kill her but on the other hand she had survived nuclear explosions.
