History

The Continent was an unnamed landmass that existed on an unknown world.

Long ago, the Dwarves came to arrive on the continent whilst gnomes had already held small colonies in Mahakam and Tir Tochair.

During 2230 BR came the Age of Migration where the Aen Seidhe elves arrived on the Continent on their white ships. For a thousand years, the elves colonized much of the Continent mostly through peaceful means though they did clash with several races, such as vrans, werebbubbs and dwarves.

In 230 BR, the Conjunction of the Spheres occurred that affected the Multiverse and brought humans to the Continent.

Around 500 years ago, the First Landing also known as the Landing of the Exiles took place which saw ships bearing men arrive in the North where they made landfall in Pontar Delta and the mouth of the Yaruga.

Around 782, Ludovic’s army brought down Divethaf and took control over Toussaint. This marked the first time that Humans successfully usurped an Elven kingdom. It was around this time that magic was mastered by Humans as well, and they eventually learned to use it against the Elves they learned it from. These three major events sparked centuries of war and tensions across the Continent. Conflicts continue to wage on in the show and the game franchise. This time it goes beyond Humans vs. Elves, as the Nilfgaardian Empire, whose people have both Human and Elven blood, threatens to upend the Northern Kingdom.

Later on, a conflict erupted between the kingdom of Cintra and Temeria with this being the Six Years' War that was fought between 830 to 836.

By 950, a group of renegade mages that included Alzur Cosimo Malaspina came to create the first Witchers.

During the 1140s, King Radovid III sought further resources to wage war against Aedirn leading to him taxing the Appanage of Kovir. The Appanage in response declared itself as the independent Kingdom of Kovir resulting in war between the new kingdom and Redania. Despite support from his ally Kaedwen, the war ended with Kovir's victory and the First Treaty of Lan Exeter was signed.

By 1257, Emhyr var Emreis came to overthrow the Usurper and had him executed allowing him to take again control of the Imperial throne of Nilfgaard.

Overview

Locations on the Continent included:

  • Blue Mountains : a large mountain range dividing the Northern Kingdoms from Haakland and Zerrikania. The mountains form a natural border for at least Lyria, Aedirn, and Kaedwen. Dol Blathanna, the Valley of Flowers, lies at the very foot of the mountains, and the river Yaruga's spring is hidden among the rocky heights.
  • Dragon Mountains : lying to the most northerly mountain range in the Northern Kingdoms. According to Villentretenmerth, even up until the 13th century, no man had crossed its peaks, due to both the region's extreme remoteness and the dragon population that gives the range its name.
  • Fiery Mountains :
  • Kestrel Mountains :
  • Kaer Morhen :
  • Cintra :
  • Korath Desert : nicknamed the Frying Pan, lies far to the south and east of the Northern Kingdoms, beyond Tir Tochair, between the Nilfgaardian Empire and Zerrikania and the Haakland.
  • Tir Tochair :
  • Gulf of Praxeda : a body of water in the North Sea, bordering the kingdoms of Kovir and Poviss and the Hengfors League. The Targo, Braa and Buina rivers all empty into it.

Creatures that lived on the Continent included:

  • Dragons : a class of flying draconids that were said to represent pure chaos. Pure dragons were represent by the colour of their scales with these including black, green, red, and white whilst others were considered mythical or nearly extinct.
  • Leshy : a forest monster that is described as something that "lives only to kill". When they kill something or someone, they do not leave much for any carrion eaters. Leshens dwell in dense, primeval woods. Fiercely territorial creatures, they hunt with stealth and cunning as their only companions. They use their inborn magic to control the plants and animals within their territory – and so, when stalking them, half the battle is merely getting near enough to strike. Leshens old enough to earn the appellation "ancient" wield advanced skills and tactics that make them particularly dangerous. ome leshens create magic totems that increase their strength – in such cases these totems should be destroyed before or while fighting them. Furthermore, some leshens can create for themselves a kind of immortality in the following way: the leshen wounds a lost traveler passing through its woods with its claws and casts a black magic curse on him. For as long as the individual marked in this way stays near its territory, the leshen will be reborn every time it dies. Such leshens can only be defeated by driving them away or killing the person they have marked. In combat leshens use not only their long claws but also their many allies: wolves, who unfailingly answer their call, or ravens, which harass and distract the leshen's opponent. Leshens are also able to bend plant life to their will and make it aid them in battle. It is a witcher's good fortune that leshens do have one weakness - they are extremely vulnerable to the Igni Sign.

  • Kikimore :

Sentient races that inhabited the lands included:
