History

CryNet Enforcement and Local Logistics (C.E.L.L.) was the name of a private military company that was under control of CryNet Systems and operated as a part of its parent organization. In 2023, the first notable deployment of this company's assets began in New York City during the mysterious disease spreading amongst the population that was named the "Manhattan virus". As a result, martial law was declared and C.E.L.L. was put under contract by the United States Department of Defense where the PMC was dispatched to help police the city during this chaotic time. After no cure was found, the PMC was given permission to start terminating infected civilians. At the same time, soldiers from C.E.L.L. were also dispatched to find and eliminate Raptor Team leader Laurence Barnes who was one of the survivors of the Lingshan incident. The basis for this attack was that he was deemed a biohazard as well as a carrier of the disease and due to Commander Dominic Lockhart not trusting the Nanosuit technology used by him. Thus, they company was actively hostile to the United States military forces and Prophet to the point that they hunted the soldier Alcatraz who was now wearing the Nanosuit. In the midst of this moment, the Ceph began their own invasion of the city where they attack C.E.L.L. troop deployments as well as begin the unveiling of their underground spires that deploy a bioweapon that actively kills large number of human inhabitants. The activities of the company leads to the Department of Defense rescinding the authority given to C.E.L.L. over Manhattan and began to send United States marines in their place. Despite this being the case, the PMC still engaged in its activities to capture the operator of the Prophet Nanosuit until the death of Commander Lockhart. Afterwards, a dying Jacob Hargreaves had was masterminding the capture of the Nanosuit allowed its wearer to be evacuvated from a CryNet Systems facility that was being attacked by the Ceph. In the aftermath, it was the activities of the Nanosuit user that brought about the end of the threat of the Ceph bioweapon and seemingly stopped the aliens from conquering the city though various other underground installations were revealed across the world.

In the aftermath, the Nanosuit user's mind had been overwritten by that of Prophet who began his attempt at hunting down the aliens around the world. During this time, he encountered a powerful command and control alien entity known as the Alpha Ceph which he sought to destroy. He along with his former comrade Psycho managed to track the creature down to Siberia, Russia but he was captured by C.E.L.L. forces. The corporation had actually been secretly making their own plans to become a key player on the planet where they began erecting Nanodomes over Ceph outbreak sites in order to seemingly contain the aliens. However, in reality, it was to take over the Earth and bring it under their own control. One of their objectives was the capture of the Alpha Ceph which they took to the Liberty Dome and kept trapped within a containment facility known as System X. The capture of the Alpha Ceph led to the deactivation of the alien hive mind and left many of their units inactive with the only operational ones being in a feral mindless state. With System X, the corporation began tapping into Ceph energy sources and used it to beam this free energy globally to around the world. By 2047, the corporation had become a global power due to its control over free energy and used this advantage to gain many people under its debt who were forced to work it off by operating for C.E.L.L. This led to a great deal of dissatisfaction amongst civilian forces at the growing corrupt nature of the company with even members such as Karl Ernst Rasch resigning as CEO of the parent company. These individuals later established a resistance force with the goal of overthrowing the corporation. At the same time, C.E.L.L. ruthlessly hunted down all Nanosuit users where they "skinned" them from their armors which either killed their users or severely injured them. Their activities were, however, hampered by the release of Prophet from stasis at the hands of resistance fighters that included Psycho who wanted his aid in stopping C.E.L.L.

The dialogue in Crysis 3 makes it appear that C.E.L.L. is an actual company instead of being a CryNet Systems PMC as its regularly referred to as a corporation and had taken over the world.

The resistance forces made great use of Prophet in their goal at crippling their enemy with this involving the destruction of their free energy delivery device known as System X. It was during the sabotage of the facility that it was revealed that the free Ceph energy was actually the command and control alien entity known as the Alpha Ceph. With the facility's destruction, the Alpha Ceph was freed where it reactivated the various Ceph units that began to fight C.E.L.L. soldiers. The large alien outbreak within the Liberty Dome led to the corporation instigating Operation Red Star Rising where they intended to evacuvate and destroy the Ceph with their Archangel satellite weapon. However, Prophet along with the resistance managed to stop the weapon before it could complete its act of destruction. Despite this achievement, the Alpha Ceph created a wormhole to its homeworld in order to bring a fleet of warships to conquer Earth. After the destruction of the Ceph warship by Prophet, the corporation was devastated at the loss of its various assets. At this point, Senator Tara Strickland announced that the remaining assets of C.E.L.L. were being seized as part of the global recovery effort and in this time the company's board of directors were being hunted by Michael Sykes.

Overview

This PMC was operated by CryNet Systems which itself was a subsidiary of Hargreave-Rasch Biotechnologies. It had its own Executive Board that controlled the operations of its employees though these were also partially influenced by its parent company's directors. Typically, employees went through a profiling system for those at sufficiently high level. Initially, their large scale deployments and policing activities could only be accomplished by authority by the United States Department of Defense. Despite their authority, this PMC was noted for being brutal in its operations and holding corrupt behavior. This was evident in New York where they were witnessed kiling Force Recon Marines and even assisting in the "sanitization" of civilians infected by the Ceph bioweapon. However, the company operated as a Work Away Debt scheme whereby employees were able to work at C.E.L.L. in order to clear their family debt. Individuals that developed a debt with the company could be forcibly recruited to work their debt away. However, family members could substitute themselves in place of their kin to become part of the scheme. Their nature was only heightened once they became a global power where they forced civilians into debt by offering free energy and had them working for the corporation in order to pay it off. However, the nature of the debt was considerable to the point that its employees had to work their entire lives for the company and forced to take part in their activities.

Technologies developed from the Ceph conflict catapulted the company into the forefront of new energy technologies. After they harnessed System X, notable developments by the company was the creation of an artificial intelligence that oversaw the activities of the Liberty Dome. This computer system was known as NAX that held a feminine voice and monitored various activities. Another creation was the orbital weapon satellite known as Archangel that was a directed energy device able to destroy entire cities from orbit. This weapon was normally kept inactive except under scenarios that required the activation of Operaiton Red Star Rising. Such situations included the widespread awakening of the Ceph that were present in the New York Nanodome.

They developed new wireless transfer technologies to beam energy remotely to sites allowing them to take the role of a global power supplier. This led to the creation of the Paradise Satellite Network whereby hundreds of Cherubim and Seraphim orbital platforms beamed energy directly to sites around the world that included homes or work areas. The power regulation network was controlled by the Archangel satellite that gave C.E.L.L. a monopoly on the energy market.
