History
Evil Dead
The Deadites were a race of parasitic demons who once long ago inhabited the Earth. Their origins were traced to ancient times to a group of beings called the Dark Ones who were neither demon nor fully human. One of their number was responsible for creating a tome called the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis as a weapon against humanity. The pages of the book were cut from the bodies of the damned upon which the Dark Ones had inked their passages in human blood. These passages contained the power to create portals that connected the mortal world to the underworld where the evil came to reside. With it, the Dark Ones intended to use the book to hold power over all of mankind.
Later on, Professor Knowby came to uncover the Necronomicon were during his study of it he came to release the Kandarian Demon along with the Deadites after reading the text. Ash Williams later came to battle the Deadites that were attempting to take over the world.
Ash vs. Evil Dead
After taking a woman to his trailer, Ash and her were shown to be drunk where they sought to have some fun. This led to him taking out the Necronomicon Ex-Mortis and in a drunken state reading a passage from it with the woman. As a result, the Evil Force was once more unleashed with Deadites emerging into the world once more.
Overview
In appearance, the Deadites came in a wide variety of shapes and forms as they typically possessed human bodies be they living or dead. People that were killed as a result of the evils of the Necronomicon had their corpses possessed and they in turn became Deadites. Within their host, they could appear human before revealing their true nature and it was shown that they could twist the bodies of their hosts into more monstrous forms.
It was shown that the Deadites could be killed by the Kandarian Dagger and through exposure to sunlight. Alternatively, the only other way of destroy a Deadite was by destroying the body they were possessing.
Deadites were shown to hold a sadistic personality as they enjoyed tormenting their victims. This went as far as pretending to be their loved ones in order to give them hope and reassure them before revealing their true nature.
After being banished from Earth, they came to inhabit an other-dimensional void that was known as the Deadlands.
