History
The Exemplars were a group of warriors all of whom were champions for the eight great mystical entities that made up the Octessence. Millennia ago, a disagreement erupted among them whereby Farallah, Cyttorak, Balthakk, Ikonn, Raggadorr, Watoomb, Valtorr and Krakkan decided to settle their difference in the Wager of the Octessence. The Avengers Unity Squad later battled the Exemplars where the Black Knight Dane Whitman was overwhelmed by the cursed Ebony Blade and stabbed the villain Carnivore with it. (Black Knight v4 #2)
Overview
In appearance, the Exemplars were a individuals who all gained a totem of one of the Octessence. This transformed the person into a living embodiment of the power of the mystical entity that created that totem. All members of the Exemplars possessed a totem of their mystical creator and contained a fraction of their power. (Iron Man v3 #22)
Legends spoke of their coming that would herald the Sign of the Eight. (Iron Man v3 #22)

- Bedlam : Olisa Kabaki was a black woman who in Kenya came to find the Ivory Idol of Ikonn thus gaining powerful psionic and mental control abilities. (Thor v2 #17)
- Carnivore : Andreas Zorba was a male human who in the Andes of South America came to find the Fearsome Fist of Farallah thus gaining superhuman speed, coordination/fighting ability, and claws. (Iron Man v3 #22)
- Conquest : Bridget Malone was a female human who in Northern Ireland came to find the Kestrel Key of Krakkan thus gaining enhanced fighting skills and a wide assortment of weaponry attached to her costume. (Thor v2 #17)
- Decay' : Yoshiro Hachiman was a Japanese male who had been an employee of Stark-Fujikawa where in Tahit he came to find the Verdant Vial of Valtorr and gained a "touch of death" that caused organic objects to disintegrate. (Iron Man v3 #22)
- Inferno : Samantha McGee was a female human who in Canada came to find the Blinding Brazier of Balthakk thus gaining the the ability to fly and project blasts of heat, as well as above-average combat skills. (Iron Man v3 #21)
