The Eye of Shangri-la is an artifact that features in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Overview

The Eye was a blue gem which was covered with golden snakes and contained the immortality waters from the Pool of Eternity Life at Shangri-la. It was smuggled out of China in 1940 where it remained in Great Britain for many years. The British government was contacted by an English archaeologist uncovering the tomb of the Dragon Emperor and wanted to return the Eye to the Chinese people. However, this was only a trick to lure the O'Connel family in escorting the Eye into the hands of a rebel army who wished to resurrect the Dragon Emperor.

After spilling the innocent blood of Evy O'Connel onto the gem, the golden snakes came alive and slithered away while the gem itself glowed red. Once the golden magical snakes disappeared, the gem unfurled into a blue diamond containing some water within it. This was accidently thrown onto the body of the Dragon Emperor who became an undead being encased within a terracotta statue.

Despit it's usage, the Eye was still useful as the diamond was required at the Gateway to Shangri-la where it would lead to the Pool of Eternity that resided in Shangri-la in the Himalaya Mountains. The Dragon Emperor used the diamond to find the waters and gained immortality as a result. The diamond itself was uncovered by Rick O'Connel's brother Jonathan who planned to use it to make himself rich in Peru vowing to enter a land free from mummies.
