Biography

Faith

Whilst in Black Ops, she came to work with a man named Manson who was both a monster and a genius. Some regarded him as the most powerful man in the world with him being in charge of the Clockwatchers organization. (JLA v1 #81) Manson was said to had trained her and he regarded her as his best student. (JLA v1 #82) At some point, Batman was known to had encountered her where he came to be impressed at her abilities and saw potential in her becoming a superhero. He came to recognise her ability to inspire others and during their meeting he came to speak to her about his protégé Nightwing. Faith mistakenly assumed that Nightwing was Batman's son during this conversation. (JLA v1 #73)

A military unit was dispatched to capture her again but she easily defeated them. It was then that she was approached by a special drone with a message from Batman. He had created a contingency if the Justice League were ever killed that a protocol would recruit their replacements with Faith being among those recruits. She then made her way to the Justice League Watchtower where she joined her new team mates and set about protecting the world that was attacked by a range of mystically related disasters. (JLA v1 #69) The team were deployed under the leadership of Nightwing where they moved to save Tokyo from a mystically created natural disaster. Faith was invaluable in preventing the city from being destroyed whereupon the Justice League reconvened at the Watchtower where Jason Blood was enchanting the headquarters with mystical protection. Afterwards, the team learnt that the water from the oceans were being removed by the mystical threat that seemed to be centred at the former site of fallen Atlantis. (JLA v1 #71) They later confronted the ancient sorceress Gamemnae who had absorbed Zatanna into her body and later came to do the same to Major Disaster. Faith entered into the battle where she managed to free Zatana from the ancient Atlantean's body. (JLA v1 #73)

She next assisted the Justice League as they dealt with a large mass of mirror matter that was heading towards Earth where they helped slow its speed whilst Firestorm used his powers to transmute it into normal matter. Afterwards, the League received a distress signal from the planet Kylaq that was being attacked by a group called the Peacemakers. The assembled heroes debating on intervening where half believed that their jurisdiction ended on Earth whilst the others felt it was their duty to help the innocent. Faith was initially on the fence on the matter but came to favour helping the people. This resulted in half the League remaining behind to protect Earth whilst the other half went to help save Kylaq. Faith used her powers to easily deal with some of the alien war machines whereupon they met with the leaders of Kylaq. (JLA v1 #78)

Feeling responsible for the incident, she decided that the only way to absolve the Justice League was by using the resources of Manson. Major Disaster accompanied her to the meeting as he kept blaming himself as well for the deaths at Safe Haven. Faith offered herself with Major Disaster also stating he would join their black-ops group in exchange for clearing the League. However, Manson only wanted Faith and was in a rush for her to leave with him to the Clockwatchers. It was then that Faith realised that Manson was using the 'Mouth' that was sowing guilt and other negative emotions in those that heard it. Thus, she realised that Manson was responsible for the Haven incident and made each of the Justice League's at the site feel responsible for the deaths. (JLA v1 #82)

Afterwards, an emergency occurred when Ronnie Raymond was seemingly left on the Moon's surface by an unknown assailant who intended to kill him. Superman managed to rush him back to the Watchtower where Faith used her 'lay on hands' to keep him alive. Afterwards, John Stewart's ring directed him to a remote mountain based stronghold that was an indicator on the identity of the attacker. The League arrived at the site to find Vandal Savage who was another target of this mysterious attacker with him having some familiarity with the threat. (JLA v1 #85) Upon returning to the Watchtower with their quarry, they found the attacker there where their foe was invisible and had neutralised Superman. The rest of the League determined that it was a Martian who was invisible and using the full extent of their abilities to toy with the Justice League. Faith attempted to grapple the invisible assailant and was nearly bisected by Wonder Woman's lasso. In desperation, Batman used a thermal grenade to generate a large blast of fire to disorient their foe with Faith putting up a shield to protect her comrades. Despite that, the Martian was seemingly immune with the Justice League only escaping when Major Disaster caused a comet to collide with the Watchtower. The team then regrouped at the Fortress of Solitude where Superman revealed that the Martian was actually J'onn J'onnz and that the Martian Manhunter had gone rogue after his fear of fire had been overcome. Now known as Fernus the Burning, the Martian had turned against his friends and was in pursuit of his own mysterious goals. To battle their friend, Batman believed they needed aid and thought to recruit the captive White Martians in the Phantom Zone. However, upon opening the portal, they found Fernus had already beaten them to the Phantom Zone and had massacred the White Martians trapped there. (JLA v1 #86) He then used his abilities to overpower the Justice League where he psychically controlled Faith into using her telekinesis to slowly crush Major Disaster with her vowing to make Fernus pay. The team was only saved by the returned John Stewart who had been armed with techniques that allowed him to temporarily fight back against Fernus long enough to teleport his friends to safety. However, he was unable to use this technique again without killing himself and he told the League of the ancient history of the Burning Martians and the danger they posed. (JLA v1 #87)
