  • 1942: Real World - Japanese warplanes attack Darwin, Australia. U.S. President Franklin Roosevelt signs Executive Order 9066, which creates "exclusionary zones" affecting Japanese-Americans on the West Coast and German- and Italian-Americans on the East Coast.
  • 1985: Real World - William J. Schroeder becomes the first recipient of an artifical heart to successfully complete his recovery.
  • 1986: Real World - The Mir space station is launched by the Soviet Union.
  • 1998: Real World - Two white supremacists are arrested in Henderson, New York, for possession of military-grade anthrax; it was believed they planned to unleash a biological attack on the New York subway.
