History

Origin

Jason Rusch vs. Female Furies in Firestorm v3 #34.

The Female Furies were an elite unit of New Gods from Apokolips. (Mister Miracle v1 #6)

In an effort to replace Big Barda, Granny Goodness sought a new captain for the Female Furies and believed she found a prospective candidate in Precious. She was tasked with fighting the Furies to prove her worth but was killed with ease by her foes with this being a disappointment to both Granny Goodness and Darkseid. However, at this time, the Supergirl Kara Zor-El had arrived on Earth with Darkseid sensing potential in her and tasked Granny Goodness with bringing the Kryptonian to him. (Superman/Batman v1 #9) Big Barda used a Boom Tube to allow herself and the Trinity to reach Apokolips in order to rescue Kara. Wonder Woman accompanied Barda when they were ambushed by the Female Furies and despite inflicting damage on their foes they were seemingly defeated. (Superman/Batman v1 #11)

Darkseid never found the true Anti-Life Equation, but the prophecies came to pass that spoke of humans uncovering fragments of it. This came true when Professor Martin Stein who was one-half of the superhero Firestorm, uncovered a portion of it studying the Firestorm Matrix. Mr. Miracle and Orion came to warn Firestorm, but Darkseid had already sent the Female Furies to take the hero. They were dispatched to Earth in effort to capture Martin Stein whose knowledge of the Firestorm Matrix meant that he contained an element of the Anti-Life Equation. This brought them into conflict with Firestorm Jason Rusch along with Shilo Norman with them being assisted by Orion. The villains subdued the heroes, and prepared to load Firestorm into a Boom Tube to Apokolips when Firestorm’s girlfriend Gehenna appeared with super heroine Firehawk. The Furies were vanquished, and Metron appeared inside the Firestorm-matrix, revealing that Stein had not unlocked anti-life, but life itself in understanding the elemental nature of Firestorm. The full life equation would threaten Darkseid, and Metron warned that the villains would not rest until Stein was in his clutches. (Firestorm v3 #34)
