History
Pre-Crisis
The Forgotten Heroes were a team of superpowered beings that were gathered together by the Immortal Man. (Action Comics v1 #552) He brought them together to help him stop his old foe Vandal Savage who had created a plot that would have resulted in Superman unknowingly bringing about the destruction of the world. (Action Comics v1 #553)
Post-Crisis
Following the Crisis on Infinite Earths, a new version of reality was created with a different history of events. The Forgotten Ones
Flag's presence of the team was done so at the request of Jeb Stuart and the U.S. government (Secret Origins v2 #14)
On one of their missions, the Forgotten Heroes with Rip Hunter were on the trail of Vandal Savage's agents namely the Forgotten Villains where they pursued their quarry to two million years ago. They had been sent to recover another missing piece of the primordial meteor that was resting at an unnamed lake. The Forgotten Heroes fought against their villain counterparts thus keeping them occupied whilst the Immortal Man went for their goal. He came to ambush Vandal Savage and claimed the meteor only to be attacked by a giant mutated sabretooth tiger. After dealing with the beast, the Immortal Man was knocked unconscious by Savage who then escaped with the meteor fragment and abandoned his allies behind. Rip Hunter then returned the Forgotten Heroes and the Forgotten Villains back to the present. (Resurrection Man v1 #25)
The group were said to had run out of money to fund their operations causing them to disband as a result. Carson was forced to run away from creditors where he escaped for the centre of the Earth. (Superman: The Man of Steel v1 #120)
The team later went in search for the Immortal Man leading to their first encounter with the Resurrection Man. (Resurrection Man v1 #24)
