Genesis Pits

Genesis Pits are buildings that feature in Robotech.

History

These subterranean complexes were built by the Invid when they came to the Earth and conquered it. Their construction was ordered by the Regess who conducted numerous experiments in regards to evolution, de-evolution and genetic engineering in the large pits. The ultimate aim of these Pits was to ensure the survival of the Invid race.

Through the Genesis Pits, the Regess conducted and observed crucial experiments from her great Hive. Her studies revealed to her that the living creature of the planet had evolved through many long years over the course of their history into different levels and forms. Several of these she determined were highly specialized and adapted to specific environments. As such, to conduct her plan to find the ultimate life form suitable for living on the planet, the Genesis Pits were used to carry out experiments in biogenetic engineering. Creatures were cloned from different eras in the planet's history and native lifeforms were recreated in the same manner as they had evolved. The Invid had hoped that by studying them they would gain the knowledge to transform their race into the ultimate power as they believed they were destined to be.

One Genesis Pit was discovered by Scot Bernard and his band of resistance fighters who learnt that the Invid had recreated the dinosaurs in the large underground pit. The course of their journey to return to the surface led the Invid to terminate their experiment and all the cloned life forms that were made within it. The results of the experiments in the Genesis Pits taught the Regess on how to evolve her children into Human form Invid who were determined to be the perfect lifeform that could survive on the planet.
