Gigan was an alien cyborg created by the cockroach-like aliens from the Nebula Space Hunter M, and, along with King Ghidorah, was used by them in their attempt to conquer Earth. He had hooked blades on its hands, a buzzsaw in its chest, a sharp beak, and flight capability. The alien agents on Earth, Fumio and Kubota, controlled the monsters using frequencies on data tapes from their control room inside the Godzilla Tower at Children's Land.
Gigan and Ghidorah attacked Tokyo at the aliens' behest, and also fought with, and nearly defeated, Godzilla and Anquirus when the pair, attracted by the same frequencies used to give Gigan and Ghidorah their instructions, arrived in Japan. The battle was long and fierce and almost ended in victory for the invaders, until humans, led by Gengo Kotaka, destroyed the Godzilla Tower, killing Fumio and Kubota and destroying the tapes. With no one controlling them anymore, Gigan and Ghidorah fought a while longer but after being defeated by Godzilla and Anquirus, fled back into outer space.
Later, during their own attempt to conquer Earth with their monster-god Megalon, Emperor Antonio of Seatopia contacted Space Hunter M and requested use of Gigan to assist Megalon in fighting Jet-Jaguar. The aliens agreed and Gigan was quickly dispatched to Earth, and upon arriving began helping Megalon give Jet-Jaguar a sound thrashing. However Godzilla soon returned to battle his old foe and the newcomer, teaming up with Jet-Jaguar to defeat them. As before, Gigan was defeated by Godzilla and, only being on loan to the Seatopians, quickly escaped back into space a second time the first chance he was given.
